Moms of infants... do you always do bedtime?

Just curious moms of infants... do you always put your DC to bed or does DH do it sometimes?

I nurse DD every night before bed and she usually falls asleep nursing or shortly after so I always put her to bed.

But I want to find more time to go to CrossFit and the latest class they have is 7pm (DD eats/goes to bed around 7:30/8) so DH would have to put her to bed while i'm there. I would pump so he could give her a bottle of BM and I know he would love to do it and i'm sure she'd be fine with it, right? She's 3 months.

IMO I waited too long to let DH put DS to bed. I took DS to my board meetings and guild meetings until he was 7 m/o because I was afraid he wouldn't go down well without me or nursing.

Finally when he was 8 months I 'let" DH put him to bed and it was fine.

absolutely! when dh is home at night for bed time usually 1 or 2 times a week, bed time is all him.. he looks forward to that time! i used to do it all the time because when he would put her down he would end up waking her up. so to avoid it i would just do it.. but hes gotten so much better and she loves her daddy time!

We would alternate feeding her the last bottle of the night (in the beginning I think DH actually did it more than me). He was always better at swaddling her so even if she fell asleep while I was feeding her, he would wrap her up and then put her to bed.

we've been alternating since day 1. we were afraid of forming bad habits.

This is the best thing that you can do for her and for yourself! She should be used to mommy AND/OR daddy putting her to sleep.

I always do, but my baby is only 7 weeks and doesn't really have a true bedtime yet. My hubby will soothe him back to sleep when I'm really tired in the middle of the night.

Speaking of nursing before bed, I always do the same, my baby will fall asleep and then I feel like a have to change him right before bed and this will wake him up. What do other nursing moms do??????

I hate changing him before nursing becasue this usually means he is hungry so he will cry during the change.

I always do bedtime, and now DS won't go to sleep without me holding him.

DH and I have put the boys to bed together since DS #1 was born. Of course there are times when one of us is not there for various reasons and it's never been an issue. Lately, DS #2 has been going to sleep 30 mins before DS #1 so while I'm doing story time with DS #1, DH is putting DS #2 to bed. I'm sure your DD would be fine with it. Go to your Crossfit class and enjoy!

DH would love to but DD really only goes down for me - I would love to break her of that habit but I enjoy it.....

We split it....

I do all the bedtime prep:

bath on bath nights
lotion
pjs
lights down

DH then takes over with her bottle, puts her down in her crib (they have their own "thing" and I LOVE hearing them both on the monitor every night )

i work overnights, so DH puts her down on those nights. Then i do it on the nights that i'm home so that i can have that time with her, but DH and i are usually together for that.

I have been doing bedtime for 2 1/2 years and now even do 2 kids...i wish DH would do it more

Thanks guys, it's just hard b/c I nurse her before bed but I guess when I finish I can have DH come in and put her down.

I too nurse right before she goes to bed(she will be 8 months tomorrow) so I always put her to bed. But there are plenty of times when other people give her a pumped bottle before bed. So You can def pump and have DH put her to bed. Then when you get home from class, pump for the missed feeding and freeze it!

I nurse her and she usually falls into a sound sleep on the boob. Sometimes I will put her down, sometimes DH. I don't think she knows the difference at all! Plus, she's only 5 weeks.

I'm all about sharing the parental duties.

I usually do it - but DH does it as well.

I learn from everyone else who had kids before me - My cousin's wife HAS to be home to put his kids in bed - they will not go to sleep for anyone else b/c she was the only one who did it for so long .......It sucks for her b/c she can NEVER go out before they're in bed

i always put ds to bed, dh always does the naps... though i am working an evening shift on sunday so dh gets to do it... we will see if ds is still awake at midnight when i get home

DH does it about 3 nights a week, when Im working.

While DD was still nursing I put her to bed. Now that she doesn't nurse she is all about daddy at bedtime. He reads stories and rocks her in the glider before bed every night. She wants NOTHING to do with mommy.

For the most part yes when I was nursing but if I needed to go out I pumped or used formula. No that he's just on formula and almost on milk it totally varies.
I think your DH could totally handle it. It's good to get some time to yourself.

I put DD to bed every night bc that is the way SHE likes it! However, there have been some occasions in which DH has done it if I have a meeting at school or someplace I have to be, and she is fine. If i am home and she knows it, she won't stand for it, though.

I also nurse and am the one to put her to bed. She can fall asleep without me she does when I am at work for naps. If she knows I am home though, she will not go to sleep without me
