sharing with baby
I have read that you shouldn't be concerned about what you ingest (i.e. alcohol) very early on in your pregnancy b/c you won't share it with baby until 6 weeks or so. Is there truth to this?

Not sure!
I do know, the baby doesn't take it's first heart beat to the 7th gestation week. That's when mommy and baby will share the same blood stream. This is part of the reason the dr's don't have us girls come in till week 8 or 9...
I'm not really sure about that statement cause the baby is growing inside of you!

Yes, it's true. I've heard varying weeks though - anywhere from 5-7 weeks.

Yup this is true! I think the biggest alcohol worry is for the mothers help...drinking can lower immune system and stuff and you want to stay healthy...but baby doesn't get it for about 6 weeks I heard...

I was thinking the same thing... because when i was sick a couple days ago I took some midol and pepto never even thinking I could be pregnant. Now I'm worried about it. Like, what if I AM and I took that stuff??? Glad to see it wouldn't have affected the pregnancy either way

This is true. The embryo doesn't even implant until the end of week 2 and the baby doesn't share your blood stream until week 6.

All that being said if I *thought* I was pregnant (or knew early on for sure that I was) I would start being very careful about what I ingested. Those first few weeks of pregnancy are very delicate and although more than likely a glass of wine or even cold medicine won't affect anything you really never know. When I was pregnant with my DD we had an u/s at 5w5d because we were at the RE and they monitor you very early on in your pregnancy. At that point we saw the fetal pole and gestational sac. At 6w5d we saw AND heard the heartbeat. As soon as I ovulated and was trying to conceive that cycle I was acutely aware of everything I was putting into my body. It was hard to not pay attention to it.

I've heard that as well. However I know that smoking has negative effects starting the month before conceiving all the way through the pregnancy.

i think its more like 4 wks but dont quote me. In any case, if you mean during ttc or during the 2ww, youre pretty good. Thats what dr told me
