silly hospital bag question...
ok, so my DH and I are having a debate on when to bring the bag into the hospital lol, yes - really. He says he feels funny bringing in a suitcase (it's a small one with wheels) into the L&D. He thinks we shouldn't bring it into the hospital until after I give birth and we are put into a room. What are you guys doing? I feel like I want my bag with me in case I need something but then again it's not like I can wear my own clothes or anything yet, right?

Re: silly hospital bag question...
We'll bring it with us, but until we know for sure it's the REAL thing then we'll be leaving it in the car... we'll have a family memeber run out to grab it or something. he feels the same way as your DH...so that was the happy medium for us LOL

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I've thought about this too and always wondered why people bring it when they are in labor. I always thought it was stuff you would need during your stay, not during labor. I think I'd leave it in the car so that DH can bring it up after baby is born.
BUT I might have a smaller bag for labor - munchies for DH, magazines, things like that in case labor takes a long time.

They have a place for you to bring in your suitcase in L&D and store it away. You can't wear your own clothes in L&D though.
I think we planned on bringing it in to L&D, but decided to leave it in the car and just bring my 2 pillows up (which I would recommend.).
I didn't use anything out of my suitcase at all in L&D.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I'm having a scheduled c/s so I'll know when to bring it in. But if I was going natural, I think I would leave it in the car until we knew it was time during labor and then I would send my mom out or something to get it. DH would def not leave my side I wouldnt let him!

Re: silly hospital bag question...
We just had the hospital tour, and were told that you leave the bigger bag in the car until you get your room, but you should have a smaller bag with immediate use things for the labor room.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I brought it. I didn't use a single thing from it until i was in my room. actually, that's not entirely true. i asked for a lollipop from it, bc i heard they were good to suck on during labor. i put it in my mouth, it grossed me out completely and i threw it away.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
We live in the city and will be taking a cab to the hospital, so no leaving it in the car for us, we will be taking it in.

This is exactly what I have. A bag for when I get a room, and a small bag with snacks for DH, chapstick, hair ties, camera, etc for labor.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
thanks ladies!! I like the smaller bag idea and just bringing in the snaks, chapstick and stuff - then bringing in the bigger bag later. I'm sure my DH will rather this also! Although it will be yet another bag that needs to be packed, lol

Re: silly hospital bag question...
You aren't going to need it when you are in L&D. I packed a seperate bag for L&D and a bag for the hospital and I did not use any of the things I bought (snacks, sucking candy, chap stick, extra clothes, slippers)
You are in a hospital gown and they give you a bag to throw the clothes you wore when you are admitted. I kept my hospital bag in my car and when I went to my room DH brought it up that night so I could change.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
They tell you to leave your bigger bag in the car until after the baby is born. The only thing they want you to bring into the hospital is a smaller bag with all your insurance information, certificates if you took the c-section class, and things you will need to get through the physical labor, like music or focal points. Also make sure DH has snacks and plenty of quarters for the vending machines.
Since you don't know whats going to be happening they don't want you to be wheeling around a suitcase.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
i had a wheelie suitcase and a small duffel. I was induced so i was told we would be all day so i brought some stuff to entertain us. however, I didnt use it. i just laid in bed the whole time..LOL.
we brought it with us from the beginning. I did wind up needing some things from them.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
i had mine in L&D and used it! i'm definitely not leaving it in the car! it will have our cameras, laptops, snacks for DH and magazines and things for me. there's NO WAY i'm bringing a smaller bag and a larger bag...i'm jus bringing my medium sized suitcase. they don't care at all what you have with you and won't be judging the size of your bag. i didn't have to store mine, it was right next to us the whole time.
if you get an epidural or are induced you will have HOURS that are painfree where you can be on the laptop (if they have wifi), watch tv, read, etc while you're waiting. you'll want your stuff then!

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I have two bags - a diaper bag and then a small duffle. I'm bringing the diaper bag with me- only b/c it has some important papers, and things I want while in L&D. The other duffle has all my clothes and stuff I won't need until i get into a recovery room. So I'll have DH run and get that later. Same thing for the Boppy and my pillow.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I was induced and was told to only bring a very small bag with me. I left most of my stuff in a larger bag in the car. I don't think I needed anything in my bag during the induction.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
We kept the suitcase (small little carry on size one with the wheels) in the car until after I delivered and then brought it to our room. I bought a small longchamp bag with me into the delivery room with everything I thought I'd need there. HTH!

same here... I brought up whatever I thought I would need during labor (I didn't use it though) But, everything else for my stay was left in the car until I was put into a room...

I had the bag with me when I went to L&D both times. I plan on doing it again. It is just a carry on.

Re: silly hospital bag question...
I brought it with me to L&D last time and will do the same again. It was helpful having it there from the beginning because there was stuff in there for DH too.
