Had my appointemtn with the RE

I'm so confused and slightly disappointed. I had hoped that we would just do blood work to determine if it's a progesterone issue. I brought him my charts to show I'm clearly ovulating.

He wants to do hysterosalpingogram to make sure my tubes are open (shouldn't they be if I'm already getting pg?). He also wants to do a sonohysterogram to get a better look at my fibroids (I developed fibroids during my pregnancy with DD#1). THEN we move to bloodwork. He also recommended karotyping which is $$$$$$.

This all costs $$$ as our insurance doesn't have good IF coverage. DH and I have decided if its not meant to be, then we are done. As much as I would love a third baby, I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money. Even being there made me feel greedy as I already have 2 beautiful, perfect DDs.

It makes me very sad though, the thought of not having a third. We'll continue to keep trying on our own. Perhaps my consecutive chemicals were just a coincidence.

Amy i'm a little confused - did the RE mention any "easy" testing like CD 3 and CD 21 to check progesterone levels, etc.? if you're getting PG (that doesn't seem to be the issue for you ) but now staying PG i can't imagine it's an issue with your tubes. fibroids maybe, i suppose that could prevent normal implantation?

i guess i just feel like with 2 normal, relatively recent pregnancies and then 2 chemicals, the issue is probably not as "serious" as it could be. obviously that my non-medical opinion

Yes- but AFTER the other tests. I left feeling kind of like they have a "one size fits all" way of doing things. Perhaps he wants to do those tests because I am literally right in the middle of my cycle? Figures he'd get them out of the way before I start my next cycle?

I know I should have asked, but my brain hurt with all the info being thrown at me. It really opened my eyes to what so many people go through to have babies.

Have you thought about getting a second opinion or going back to your OB for some of the "preliminary" testing? Many OBs do the day 3 testing, check progesterone and hormones, etc. Mine did.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've tried the B-complex, but this time around I'm getting pregnant, but not holding it beyond a few days. My LP has been about 12 days, but I've been spotting from about 4DPO until fullblown AF on day 12. I get +HPTs on day 10/11. I'm trying the B-complex this cycle though, so we'll see.

I am going to put in a call to my OB about maybe getting a script for progesterone for this cycle. I got a +OPK last night so I am about to O in the next 24 hours.

honestly, i would try to get a second opinion. i am new to this TTC thing BUT I know my "style" when it comes to medicine and sometimes you just need a doctor who matches that style, you know?

I would also get a second opinion. My RE wanted me to get the HSG but he also started monitoring right away. Actually he left it up to me (I had 2 chemicals and a MC in 6 mos) and I said I absolutely want to start monitoring right away. If youre about to O, I'd insist on progesterone testing at 7DPO and if he wont do it, ask you OB bc mine started doing it for me after my 2nd chemical (pre-RE).

I don't know much at all about IF insurance but I thought diagnostic tests covered by most companies (potentially bc they're required by law?). Do you know exactly what's covered and what's not?

You should call your ins co to to find out what testing they will cover.

Our ins did not cover any treatments, but would cover all diagnostic testing.

So basically, I was covered to find out that I could not get pregnant, but that was the extent of it.

If you have the same situation, maybe you could at least get a diagnosis and then make your decision based on that.
