What is it like going to an RE

For those who do/did -- what is it like... meaning

*how often do you go?
*Do they take alot of bloodtests?
*Is it mich different that an ob/gyn visit?

Any info you could give me would be great!

I agree that it varies from the type of treatment you are doing.

I am doing monitored Clomid cycles.
I go on cycle day 3 for a sono and blood work and to get my rx for clomid, then I go again on CD 12 for another sono to check how my follies are growing and to check my uterine lining, I also have blood work taken that day. Depending on how well my follies are growing I may come back 2 more times during the week to see if they have gotten bigger.

This cycle I went 5 times in a month. I had slow growers this cycle.
Each time they took blood.

Yes it's different from visiting your OB. At least in my opinion it is.

like the person before me said it depends on the treatment you are doing... but for the RE did what a regular OBGYN couldn't do we had to do IVF a few times we could not get pg with OB FM me if you have any specific questions that you dont want to post here...

It does depend on the treatment and what you're doing. To begin with - you go and they make sure you've had all the necessary tests doen to see what could be a potential issue, if there are any, etc. Then you talk to them aboutyour options and decide on a plan.

In my experience, the first visit was kind of like an OB/GYN visit, in that you get a pelvic exam. But in addition to that, they take a full history, take several vials of blood, and give you a sonogram. After that, it really depends on what the problem is. I then had a lot of different testing- HSG, genetic blood tests, a post-coital test, blood tests on the third day of your cycle. Treatment can require many many frequent visits to the RE, blood work and monitoring.

The first visit was a consult where the doctor asked about my medical history, prior attempts to conceive, basic info. etc. They took my blood pressure, weight, height......nothing major. I also had blood drawn for a complete work-up. My DH had to do a semen analysis. Once the initial consult was done it was a lot of monitoring via sonos, constant blood work to check my hormone levels, etc. I was in and out of the office a lot keeping tabs on everything that was happening so if and when I did ovulate we wouldn't miss it. Once I ovulated we went in for a trigger shot and IUI. Just prepare yourself for a lot of visits and a lot of close monitoring. It's all worth it though!! Good luck!

EDIT - I was taking Metformin to try and regulate my cycles and Provera to bring on AF. I was being monitored for ovulation. Once I had an egg they triggered it to drop, I had an IUI to increase my odds of conceiving, and I was pregnant within 4 months of starting with the RE. ITA with the above posters............your visits will vary depending on the treatment you are getting but no matter what, it's lots of monitoring.
