For Moms whose babies hated rice cereal....
I started giving DD rice cereal about a week ago now, and my DD absolutely HATES it! She basically gags herself whenever I put it in her mouth. I've been trying to do a little bit everyday thinking maybe she just hates the texture and needs some time to get used to it, but it seems to be getting worse and not better. What should I do??

Maybe it's too thick? I started out making the cereal very thin -- used alot of formula....as he got used to it, I made it thicker.....

DD#2 isn't being giving solids until 6 months b.c she is BF - but with DD#1 - when we gave her cereal she would always spit it out. I just gave up after months of trying. She ate everything else but never liked any of the 3 baby cereals. She DID love cheerios when she started eating those and still loves them.
Try adjusting the thickeness - make it thicker and thinner and see which one they prefer.

Mason was having issues with oatmeal. I don't think he hated it, but hated the idea of being spoon fed. Can't get the concept or something.
We gave it a little break and the Ped said that's ok. Now we mix banana with the oatmeal and he seems to be better at it.

I've tried both thick and thin and she seems to hate them both equally. lol I even tried putting a splash of juice in there for flavor but that didn't work either. She screams the whole time like I'm torturing her. Maybe I should try a different type of cereal? Maybe oatmeal??

I went to oatmeal and DS oved that. PED said it was ok to skip the rice. Plus DS had constipation issues at the time and the PED said to NOT give him the rice cereal because it was part if the reason he was so constipated.

I'd either move to oatmeal or, if you've gotten the ok to start other solids, try something like bananas.

I don't think so. A lot of people skip rice cereal completely b/c it's so binding. Once I switched to oatmeal, I never gave DS rice cereal again. It caused way too many constipation issues.

We didn't use rice, we did oatmeal, but DS never liked it no matter the consistency. We had to put it into his bottle.

We skipped rice completely and started with oatmeal, rice is too binding and he has issues with that as it is. He loves the oatmeal, maybe give that a try?

My DD hated any cereal so I just skipped it and went right to fruit. She never had any problems digesting anything and loves cereal now at 2 yo.

Sounds like it might be too thick. make it really watery. Try that and see what happens.
