Thyroids and TTC
How much of a factor can an "out-of-whack" thyroid play in TTC? I know it can cause fertility issues, but how severe?
I have an underactive thyroid (it was just recently discovered). I'm on medication to regulate it and I'm going back to the dr. next week to see if the dosage needs to be adjusted (it totally will have to bc I'm seeing no change in any of my symptoms).
I'm just wondering if anyone had any experience with TTC and thyroid issues and how long it took them to TTC (or how much of an issue their thyroid was/is).

I have been treated for an underactive thyroid condition; Hashimoto's thyroiditis for about 7 years now
Unfortunately, it can have an extreme effect on your fertility and ability to conceive
I take 150 mcg of synthroid and Metformin for PCOS
with that and clomid i was able to conceive in my 5th cycle with DS; it was the first cycle on clomid
it really depends on if you are being treated or not

Did you immediately seek out an RE (if at all)? Or did you just work with your regular OBGYN and Dr?
I'm only in my 2nd cycle but I just want to cover my bases.

I saw my regualr Endo and my regular OB who specializes in high risk and fertility issues
my OB is the head of obstetrics at north shore forest hills

I don't see an Endo (yet). I've only been put on 50 mcg of Synthroid for now (I go back again in 2 weeks). And because this is a recent find my OBGYN isn't aware of it. I think I have lots to discuss with my Dr. in 2 weeks.

I don't see an Endo (yet). I've only been put on 50 mcg of Synthroid for now (I go back again in 2 weeks). And because this is a recent find my OBGYN isn't aware of it. I think I have lots to discuss with my Dr. in 2 weeks.
I don't have a thyroid issue, but my mother does. She takes Synthroid, and says that one of the "side effects" was that it made AF very regular and TTCing was actually easier after the thyroid issues were under control. (I'm the oldest of four!)

from my understanding from many drs is having a tsh around 1 to 2 is optimal for fertility reasons especially if you have a thryoid issue.... you can check out thryoid.about.com for more info if you like...good luck xoxox

Thanks for the info. From some of the stuff I'm reading and from what I *think* my levels were last time I got checked (about 7 weeks ago) it might not cause any problems. I will be speaking to my Dr. when I go in a couple of weeks.

I have an underactive thyroid but I had it under control for awhile before getting my BFP. I will say that you should have it under control with the right synthroid dose before you TTC because thyroid issues can cause certain disabilities in babies as well as miscarriage. Once it's under control, as long as you check it in the first trimester to make sure it's sure it's stable, you'll be fine.
