Swine Flu concerns

I know this has been discussed time and time again, so I'm sorry to bring it up...

What is everyone who is TTC planning on doing as far as getting the H1N1 shot?

I have to get the regular flu shot this week at work, since I work for a hospital. I'm already a bit put off by the fact that we are being told we have to take the shot - since I never get one.

I don't have contact with any patients as I work off site. However, since some others in my dept do go to the hospital for appointments (although they are on different floors as the pts) our entire dept has to have them.

I'm so confused about taking it - I'm scared about any long term effects down the road...

What are you all doing?

I am nervous about contacting any flu HOWEVER after some research I have decided not to get either flu shot. This will be the first year not getting the regular flu shot. I just want to avoid putting anything foreign into my body at this time.

Last year I got the season flu and then what my doctor believes to have been swine flu at the very beginning of June.

I was SO sick that you would think I would learn my lesson from both those experiences.......


However...... I decided that as of right now, I will not be getting either! I work in a school and I am doing what I can to stay healthy in ways that are within my control....... I keep Lysol spray and Clorox wipes in my room... I have my kids use hand sanitizer after sneezing, etc.... and I keep the windows cracked open even if they don't need to be, just to get some air circulating... ESPECIALLY if someone in my class is coughing or sniffling.......

OH, and I am upping my vitamin C intake.........

My decision may change, but as of right now, I am doing all I can to take matters into my own hands and avoiding the vaccine.....

Oh and BTW, my regular dr (not OB) recommended I get the seasonal flu shot only if I will be in my 3rd trimester during seasonal flu season. As of right now I'm not even pregnant yet.... but if my timeline goes as planned, I will not be in that category.

I will not be getting the H1N1 vaccine. I just got my preservative free seasonal flu vaccine yesterday (I am 5 weeks). I made DH get a seasonal flu shot also. I am making sure to wash my hands more than usual. Whenever we come home we wash right away, before even petting the dog. I am a little ocd with the hand washing, but working in health care I know the difference it can make. I am paranoid when we are in public places with crowds like the mall, etc.. I am just hoping for the best. Even in church after peace be with you I use hand wipe or sanitizer. I know I am nuts but I don't want to take any chances.

I feel strongly about this.

I have gotten my flu shot (seasonal) a while ago (as I have been every year for the past 10 years) & will CERTAINLY be getting the H1N1 as soon as it becomes available to me.

The risks of getting the flu (either flu, but especially H1N1) are too great for me & too great for the baby. It's about much more than just getting sick.

If you can take it BEFORE baby is even conceived: it's really ideal.

I will NOT be getting the H1N1 vaccine. It's just too new for me to be comfortable with putting it into my body. We have no idea what effects this vaccine will have on us years from now.

I normally don't get the seasonal flu shot because I never get the flu, but last year I did so I think I will be getting the seasonal flu vaccine this year.

I have been washing my hands non-stop and just bought a package of hand sanitizers from BJs to keep around the house, at work and in our cars. DH is on an ambulance just about every day so I'm being overly cautious.

I had my annual physical last week and I told the doctor I was TTC (and could not for certain say I was NOT pregnant (although I know now I definitely wasn't)), she told me she would not give me the flu shot until my 2nd trimester. Since I have never had the flu shot before in my life, I was unconcerned. She didn't even mention H1N1, but if I do get pregnant soon, I will take it up with my OB. I will do whatever she advises.
