Sorry!  Here's to next cycle!! 
CD1 would be your first day of a regular "flow" (I really hate that term...lol.), when you would need a tampon or pad.

The same thing happened to me this month; pretty heavy spotting 1 day then the next day full blown AF. I considered that spotting day CD1 because it was obviously AF.
If you have a normal 28- 30 cycle then I would say the 14-18 would be good BD'ing days. Have you ever used an OPK? You might be surprised to find out you O either earlier/later then you think. I dont O until CD20.

 I'm so sorry. for your new cycle. I always though it was the first day of "flow" (hate that term too) that you needed a pad or tampon, but then someone on here who was going by that was told different by their doctor. They counted the first day of spotting as cd 1. I would double check w/ your doctor to see what they say.
