Re: Moms who plan to BF

Not sure if I will pump while I'm home on maternity leave. I def. want to BF up until 2-3 weeks before I have to go back to work from maternity leave. After I go back to work I will not continue BFing, so not sure if I really need a pump.

Re: Moms who plan to BF

1) I do plan to pump.
2 and 3) unless it is gifted to me beforehand (Chat Icon fat chance) I will wait until after the baby comes. mostly b/c I can better spend $300 over the next two weeks Chat Icon but also b/c I don't plan on giving the baby pumped milk until he/she is at least 2 weeks old, so I don't need to have it right away.

I will actually be pumping whether or not the baby latches. one way or another, this baby will be fed by the milk I produce...so I definitely need the pump.

ETA: don't open it unless you are sure you are going to use it b/c it cannot be returned!!!

Re: Moms who plan to BF

I took the BF class at my hospital, but first I called to speak with a lactation specialist about pumps. She said the hospital pumps are great, but very costly if you plan to pump for at least 6 months (as I do). She recommended that I buy the Meleda Pump In Style, and I chose the lansinoh storage bags. I will begin pumping after 4 weeks. I go back to work after 6 weeks and will probably need to pump twice a day at work. (once at lunch and once before leaving for the day). BFing is very important to me, so I plan to stick out any problems and MAKE it work somehow. If I can't, I won't open the box till 4 weeks, so I'll just return it then.

I'll also be home for almost a year, but plan to pump so others can feed the baby.

I won't pump for at least a few weeks though, I would like to make sure baby is latching, used to bfing, etc.

I got a pump at my shower (Medela In Style) but won't open it until I am positive bfing is working out.
