Another vitamin question.

First I would like to say that I'm not TTC, yet. I went for a check up and my Dr. Recommended prenatals for when we do want to TTC.

I compared the vitamins I currently take to a couple brands. I noticed that my brand has more of most vitamins than the prenatals such as the B vitamins, C vitamins. Compared to one brand mine had less iron, otherwise it's been equal. And even though my multi says the 400mcg of folic acid is 100% the prenatals say 800mcgs is 100%, I assume the 800 is what you want when TTC.

I figure its perfectly OK to continue my multi until we are TTC. Besides folic acid, what the biggest difference between a multi and prenatal?

Also I was thinking of taking Omega 3s for myself but I've been reading about benefits of taking them prenatally. Decreased ADHD, better attention and acedemic success. Does anyone take Omega3s now? Can you recommend a brand?

Re: Another vitamin question.

you always want i higher dose of folic acid since it helps to prevent neural tube defects. I don't know what the correct amount is though.

Re: Another vitamin question.

Thank you. I'm thinking instead of buying an OTC prenatal, probably just buying a folic acid supplement. I will take the prescription when / if the Dr. suggests to.

They suggest 400mcg of Folic Acid, so your Multi should be fine.

I am sure more can't hurt, but IMO if you compared and everything is the same and working for you stick to it until a Doc tells you differently.
