Selling home w/o for sale sign
We are looking to sell our house but do not want a for sale sign up due to our neighbors. Our neighbors for the past five years have called the cops and where my husband works to start trouble (no proof though). Because of this we do not want a sign up but do you think a real estate agent would go for this or better to do FSBO? We are not in a rush to sell just want to get out of the neighborhood.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
I've had sellers who didn't want to put up a For Sale sign. I was fine with it, but did tell them that it's better to have one up in terms of people who live in the area, knowing that your home is for sale and passing the word along.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
a neighbor's house was listed on mls with prudential but they did not have a for sale sign on their lawn. the house sold within a couple of months. speak with your realtor prior to signing a contract.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
While it helps to have one for people who just drive around neighborhoods - many villages don't allow people to put up for sale signs on their lawns and those houses sell just fine. You will lose some of word of mouth and drive by traffic but I can't see it as being a problem. If it is maybe you want to find a different REA.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
The home I purchased did not have a for sale sign. Our realtor just brought us. Many people don't want for sale signs for different reasons.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
Our neighbors didn't have a sign- but they did put one up when the house down the block (same style, same # of beds and baths) also went up for sale.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
You don't have to have a sign. But are you going to have any open houses? Because they will bring a sign and balloons for those and that will make it obvious to your neighbors that your house is for sale. Plus with showings, they will see people going in and out of your house. Just something to think about.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
My parents home is for sale and doesn't have a for sale sign on the lawn. The one around the block from me doesn't either. If the real estate agent demands it find a new.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
The house we bought did not have a sign. The neighbors didn't know the sellers were moving out until the day OUR truck pulled up!!!
We found our house on MLS, and it was only on the market for a week. We were the first and only 'lookers'.

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
For Sale signs are not allowed in the village that I live in and homes sell! If you are having an open house though it's likely that your neighbors will figure out that you're moving anyway!

Re: Selling home w/o for sale sign
If you don't have a sign, my only advice is to have your adress listed on MLSLI so that potential buyers can find your house if they want to drive past it. Before our realtor showed us houses, I would check on MLSLI daily and drive past houses that had the addresses shown.
