Those that went cold turkey with the bottle...

Did you DC reject the milk? How did they react? We tried her afternoon bottle in her sippy and she hasn't been interested. I am wondering if I should just go cold turkey tonight or if that is cruel or too shocking to do? I just am afraid she won't take the sippy if she knows a bottle will follow later..Chat Icon

At first, she wouldn't drink milk out of a sippy cup.

We had some luck with the sippy cups with straws, but it was sporadic. Eventually, she would drink the milk of out the sippy cups.

There were some nights that were harder then others, but now she drink like a pro.

Re: Those that went cold turkey with the bottle...

After several months of trying with a sippy cup for juice or water (started at 6mos) and her declining to take it I continued with a bottle for formula, juice/water until she turned 1. After I transitioned with formula to milk, I gave her a sippy cup and she FINALLY took it. She never looked back for a bottle. It's been like that for 2 months now.
I have no idea how it happened, but it was like a switched turned on for her and she went for it. Chat Icon

Re: Those that went cold turkey with the bottle...

i wouldn't start at night. I would start fresh maybe tomorrow or next weekend. That's what i did anyway. We would offer him the sippy here or there instead of the bottle and he'd reject it. So cold turkey we went.

He was MAD for a couple of days. Would push it away, etc. But we just gave him plenty of water and kept offering the sippy throughout the day. Sometimes he took a little bit. It gradually got better each day. I was nervous about taking away the bedtime bottle but it turns out that it didn't make any difference as far as STTN goes.

It took a good week before he started drinking more than 8 ounces of milk. I think it's been 2 weeks since we did it and now it's like nothing happened. Now he walks over to the fridge and leans against it when he wants his sippy with milk. Chat Icon

We tried a million sippy cups too, even the ones with straws. Unfortunately for us, he really likes the take and toss cups. Chat Icon

How long do those sippy cups last? I feel like that too when she was rejecting it so I want to do cold turkey..

ETA: I am off until Thur. so I decided to start today, and have 4 days to try this..

Gotcha. Then definitely give it a try, but whatever you do... dont' give up. I was nervous jacen wasn't drinking enough milk. But he was fine and he had other fluids in him, so...

Oh the take and toss ones... they last as long as you want them to last. Chat Icon I just hate them because if jacen throws it on the floor, the top will sometimes come off. Chat Icon Chat Icon
