Very Confused...
Hi ladies, DH and I recently got married and I want to get off BCP in like 6 months and maybe start trying but I am just soooooo confused about cycles and when you know when you are ovulating and such....
Did you learn all of the knowledge you know now from your doctor? How do you "really know" when the chances of getting pregnant are high?
Should I go to the doctor soon or wait until it gets closer to when I want to get off my pill?
Sorry so many questions, I just want to learn as much as possible so that I know what to do in 6 months

Re: Very Confused...
i would start with the first thread on this board, 'maybeamommys everything you want to know.... about ttc'. it has tons of great info on all stuff ttc related. its great to start with, and after you read it i'm sure you will still have a billion questions because there is just so many things to think about (just like the rest of us!) so ask away!

Yea I read that 2 days ago and felt like that just made me ask more questions and half-way through reading it...my head started spinning lol!!!!
Did you go to the doc first to have them explain things to you- or did many of you guys just keep reading and asking questions to learn? I feel so out of the loop lol!!

Re: Very Confused...
I didn't really ask my doctor any questions, although she did give me prenatals. My OB told me to start taking prenatals 3 months before TTC.
As for when you ovulate, many people here do it so many different ways. My first month TTC we just basically guessed and I watched for EWCM, we got pregnant, but miscarried. This is my first month back TTC, and I'm going to do the same approach again. If I don't get pregnant, then I will use OPKs, and maybe eventually start temping.

Re: Very Confused...
You should make an appt w/ your doctor. That is a great starting point. I also recommend getting the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It has so much information in it, and will be a great resource. Also hang around here. These ladies know it all. They can answer all your questions. Defin get the book. And on ttc!!!

Re: Very Confused...
My dr. told me to be sure to start taking a multivitamin or prenatal when we were ready to start trying (although I'd been taking vitamins for years anyway). He also said we could start trying immediately after stopping BCP. I will note that I wish I had stopped the pill earlier b/c I have had VERY long cycles since going off. My first cycle was 57 days, this is my second cycle and I used OPKs to preduct ovulation (which happened on CD36).
I've learned a LOT from this board and from Taking Charge of Your Fertility.
Good luck!

Re: Very Confused...
I agree with the ladies above. The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility has a wealth of information. Definitely worth a read.
My doctor said we should start taking 800mcgs of Folic Acid at least 2 months before starting to TTC. She also said that we should BD every other day from the end of my period and that that would cover our bases.
After researching on my own, I realized that BDing every other day wouldn't actually be necessary since the fertile window doesn't last all month.
I would track your CM once you stop BC and keep track of what kind you have. I would also sign up for the free site, fertilityfriend.com, where you can track CM and also your basal body temperature if you decide to track that. After it has enough info, it will guestimate when you may be ovulating, but you will know because of your CM.
Good luck!!!

Re: Very Confused...
I learned most of the stuff from this board & the internet. There is also a lot of technical stuff you can learn form reading inserts (product info in pregnancy tests, ect).
After I started seeing a RE...I learned about the finer things about what to do next.
Prenatals are always a good idea. I got off of BCP very early after I got married... I never really liked them.
Ovulation kits are a good idea to start with (once you are off OCP) to get to know your cycle. Alternatively, you can look for other signs (temping, mucous, ect).
A visit to the Ob/GYN is never a bad idea.

Re: Very Confused...
Thank you so much ladies!!!!! Im going to order that book to also get me started
I just want to be prepared and know what to expect when I get off my BCP. I want to get off in 6 months, but after reading how long some ladies have their cycles Im starting to wonder if I should get off earlier?
I never really had a "regular cycle" when I wasnt on BC so Im unsure....
