BTDT Moms - Diaper Pails...

...worth it or not?

If so, which one is your choice.

I live out of the country but received a Diaper Genie Elite II from a friend as a gift. I have to bring it overseas so I'm wondering if it's worth it. I have never used one before - it isn't electric or anything that has to be plugged in, is it?

Just wondering if it's worth the fuss and if it is, which brand is your choice.

Thanks!! Chat Icon

I've used the Diaper Champ for both daughters. I think it helps, but there is still some smell... the only way to avoid all smells is to put the diapers outside immediately. I like the diaper champ because it uses the same bags as I use in the kitchen.

IMO, not worth it. We used it with my first child for a few months but after time it smells. WIth my son we did not use one at all. We simply through it in the garbage. If it's a real bad one we'll put it in a plastic bag and bring it straight out to the garbage.

IMO not worth it, once your kid is on solids and does those big man poos, you want that crap out of the house asap....like the minute it comes out of the kid. And in my experience, those pails just stink!

eta, I buy those packs of nappy sacks from Asda, they cost like .99p for 100, I put my dirty nappies in them and take them out to the bin. I don't want them in my house any longer than they have to be!!!Chat Icon

IMO, skip it and just bag and toss them!

ETA: if you are going overseas or are far from stores that sell the refills then it really isn't worth it IMO!

I was going to say the same thing. I don't know if you'd be able to get the refills once you are abroad.

But, I still use my Diaper Champ and DS is two, we've never had a problem with smell. I use Clorox on it every few months and hose it out.

LOVE my Diaper Genie II Elite. I never smell a thing in my DD's room, you wouldn't even know it was there if you didn't see it by her changing table. I highly recommend it. Chat Icon

Same here through both girls. Never liked the idea of storing excrement in a pail in their room or elsewhere.

diapers get wrappped up in either diaper disposable bags for #2 and get thrown in regular trash, that trash gets taken out everyday anyways.

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Pails...

we actually have two diaper genie II... one upstairs and one down... we have two very curious dogs, which is the reasoning behind it more then anything else.. but it does make a difference on the smell issue and well worth it since i have no desire to transport garbage bads outside reguarly (dh works off shifts so we never eat together and out kitchen garbage can go days without changing)

Love my Diaper Dekor. I didn't buy it until she was 4-6 months and I wish I got it sooner. I think it's really good at keeping the smells in and it holds a lot.

Re: BTDT Moms - Diaper Pails...

I use the Diaper Genie and have since my daughter was born (she's 2 1/2). There is NO smell. It's a little annoying to use because you have to sort of squish the diapers down into it, but it's terrific as far as keeping the smell away.

I love the Diaper Champ. I had one for DD#1 and just got another one for DD#2. Totally worth it. I'm not into taking out partially empty garbage bags just because of stinky diapers in it.
