spinoff to people not being encouraging

I really want to breastfeed...but apparently no one in either of our families have and DH especially has not been supportive at all! He doesn't understand why i would even want to try it bc all he has heard was how it can become painful, and how it doesn't work for a lot of people. So he has even said that I better not complain to him if anything hurts or whatever bc he thinks i should just bottle feed arghhh

Don't let anyone tell you differently, if you want to BF, then BF. Im dealing with the same thing. Tell them to shove it, and if you want to at least try it, it's your decision. Don't let anyone get you down! This is an amazing experience that you call the shots for!

men suck! dont listen to anyone even DH. do what you want to do. hopefully once the baby arrives he'll change his point of view.

When I was pregnant with my first all of XH's family was like that. I think it's from growing up in the new-fangled formula era.

Anywho...I held fast and ignored them. The funny thing is once I was actually doing it they ALL had a million questions. "What does it feel like? Do you think he likes it?" They become obsessed with breast feeding quoting things they saw/read. It was actually kind of cute.

Hold fast, they'll come around.

sorry you are going thru this. i am actually getting it in reverse. i dont want to BF. i think its a beautiful, wonderful thing for others but for myself, i'm very uncomfortable with it. im getting since comments and rude remarks as if i dont care about my baby. DH and myself, as well as all of our siblings were bottlefeed. we are are just fine!

I dealt with that attitude from MIL. She was of the "formula is better" generation. She was always convinced that DS wasn't eating enough, but he was a chunker and there was no denying that he was growing perfectly, so she layed off.

Tell him about all the money you will be saving and maybe he'll change his mind!!! OUr friends were complaining to us last night about how $$$$$$ formula is and the hubby said that I better try to bf

whats the worst that can happen if you just try>? U can't know how it will be until you do. Look at the Duggar lady she's breast fed 18 kids lol it cant be to terrible if she still does it lol

I'm sorry he is not supporting you. Could it be that deep down there are other things going on? i.e. maybe he is not comfortable thinking about your breasts in that way or something along those lines and this other stuff is a cover? I would delve a little deeper and see if something else is going on so that you can work through it.

Whatever it is, I hope he comes around. From what I've heard, breast feeding can be difficult in the beginning and you need support to keep going. It's never okay for a DH to say "don't complain to me" when you are doing what you think is best for your DC. It's his job to support you!
