Once upon a child -question-UPDATE PLEASE READ!!!!!

I took out tons of clothes with tags in brand new condition. What do they generally pay per item for new clothes?

OK, so I went and I know a few people had some positive experiences but there is basic things that people should be aware of that I wasn't...
I really got screwed big time!

-They are ONLY looking for fall. They told me this from the beginning. So all the stuff I bagged and bagged for hrs had to be re-organized. they said they go by seasons.
-They take FORVER to go through everything so be prepared to sit for hrs or as they say "drop off". I waited for 45 min and had stuff that I picked out 2 bodysuits/a laptop/ and a gymsuit.
I figure they take longer so you can shop longer.
-AFter 45 minutes he only went through 2/4 bags. and he only pulled 7 things (everything had tags) perfect condition too! probably not fall though.
-If you have anything without tags it has to be above 18months
-from the getgo they made me feel like I was getting nothing bc they said that when you put clothes in shopping bags they wrinkle and they probably wont take it. I told them I lived in the same town as themChat Icon
-I had shoes with tags/toys with tags also not taken.
Basically they KNOW what they are looking for so IMO this is not worth the time and effort to collect all your clothes, sit for an hr, and then have to bring stuff home.
If you are interested in going...my advice is to go with a few things that you think they should buy and if they dont take them then go no further.

I will say for newborn stuff...they had a ton of stuff to buy. Big ticket items etc for cheap. Buying isnt the problem there...selling is IMO.

adding-I got 8.00 for 7 outfits and a few were hartstrings and janie and jack. They do check name brands. SO I imagine brand is 1 buck and carters and others is .50

no idea- I never even asked. It all depends on the clothing item itself. I brought back 2 bins of clothes and revceived $95. My bins were full but definitely not packed!

I have a lot of brand new stuff with tags, really nice stuff, top brands, etc. I guess better off trying ebay.

Funny thing is...i feel like Ive read ALL positive reviews and I am questioning where I went wrong with this. Now I have to unload all this stuff back upstairs. So not worth it!

In the past few weeks...there were a few ladies on here who felt they were too picky and under paid for the stuff they did accept.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Which one did you go too?

They barely took any of my stuff either and the stuff they didnt take I was surprised at...They didnt take anything I had that had tags on it, Brand New Carters PJ's with tags they gave back...I had a snowsuit worn once, perfect condition...oh and like you said, name brand stuff, Janie and Jack jeans, Nike outfits, Reebok outfits...all in perfect condition, no tags but either not worn or maybe once and they gave them all back....They gave me back 75% of what I gave them.

I really didn't mind cause I was planning to give away the stuff anyway, this was a last ditch attempt to see if I would get any $ first......but I agree they know what they want.

If you have a lot of stuff to sell, I recommend the KidsKloset sale. A bunch of moms in my moms group swear by it. There is one coming up in September in Deer Park. It's a bit of work to get ready for it, but I know a lot of moms had great success with it. And if you sell stuff you have the opportunity to buy before the doors open to the public.

ETA: No idea why you can't say KidsKloset????? It won't let me post a link, it comes up all ********. If you google it, you can find it.

I went to the one in sayville.
I am really annoyed. For 8 dollars I have to unload all of this stuff. I made 8 dollars for about 3 hrs work...go me...less then minimum wage Chat Icon

Oh that just stinks...
7 bucks an item and they are selling them for 30-50 bucks...
In the 45 minutes it took me to walk around and say...wow this is in good condition maybe I will get this...I put it back bc I was ******. Thats the idea...they take there time so they never have to give you the $$$...you are always re-investing.

Yup, you are absolutely right, but I called prior to going so I was aware of their rules.

I brought my tagged fall and winter items in bins and waited about a 1/2 hour.

I got back $95 and spent $10, then went to BRU and bought a high chair! Chat Icon

I took mine on a Sat last week and they didnt give me my quote till Monday night! They said I had to much to go through. I didnt mind too much but I live 30 minutes or so from there so the drive twice was annoying but I was grateful I guess to get anything.

I bought some things from the one in Seaford. I paid very little so I assumed that the amount they pay for the clothes is on the low side. I didn't know that they opened in Sayville. What happened to the plans for one to open in Holbrook?

Wow, I guess everyone's experience is different. What I sold back was mostly infant toys still sealed and a huge gift basket also sealed. I had 1 brand new adiddas outfit still in the gift box and also a fall outfit for girls still in the box as well. I knew I wasn't going to use any of it so I didn't really care how much I got for the stuff. IME none of these places really pay that much so it just isn't worth it to me to spend all that time putting stuff together to try to sell. Sorry your experience wasn't a good one.

See you hit the nail on the head...
It was the time that completely killed me. Who has all this time to put the stuff together, get declined and then put it all back in their home. Its such a waste of time for me. I think I might just have a garage sale or something.

Maybe the one in sayville is considered the hollbrook oneChat Icon Its basically across from the Toys r us which is still holbrook. This store had a TON of things. I cant imagine that he is going to sell all of it.

-oh for the record for everyone else. While walking around I did notice things I bought for dd at childrens place in tanger outlets that were used and marked at 6 bucks when I only paid 3 bucks for them new. So you really have to be careful. I dont think everything in there is such a great deal. I do think the big ticket items were pretty cheap though.
