Organic Moms - Question

Does your daycare center provide organic food for your DC, or do you provide the food?

If you provide the food, did you get grief about providing it??

If your daycare center provides organic food, could you please tell me the name of the place and what town it's in?

TIA!!!

I used to send DS to KiddieCare in East Northport and they have gone all organic with their food. Before they went organic I used to send food with DS and never got a problem for it.

I totally stressed about this as DS started switching from baby food to solids. My daycare is a small private daycare in a house. They prepare very healthy food but not organic. I decided to let DS eat what all the other kids are having and send organic milk because that is a biggie for me.

A lot of the fruits and veggies they eat are safer ones (according to the EWG, lots of thick skinned fruits, melon, pineapple etc) and I don't worry too much about grains and meat.

I was a mess over this decision at the beginning but it is working out fine and I make sure we do the organic fruits and veggies at home.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Our previous daycare gave me grief about sending in food. They claimed it would cause jealousy amongst the other kids when they sit down and two of them have a different meal... blah, blah, blah... they also gave me grief about sending in organic milk... considering I have two milk lovers they saved some $$ on me providing my own milk. Also, who can tell the difference when you see a glass of milk.

I was never really happy with their menu even though a nutritionist signed off on it. They had a woman who "cooked" but some of it was processed and prepackaged which in my book doesn't count.

All families provide lunch/snacks at their new center. It's extra work for me but I don't mind if it means they are eating healthy and mostly organic.

If I had to do it all over again, I would have definitely pushed the food issue or found another place sooner.

So far that is the only center I have found that is organic. I just don't know if it's worth it to add 40 minutes a day to the commute to send her there.

We provide the food and get zero grief. Even when DS was just starting solids, I used to send in homemade frozen baby cubes, and they had no problems defrosting it and feeding DS.

We really loved it there, but 40 min is a huge chunk of time. You can just send in food with your child.

The problem is that I can't just send food in with her to other centers. I'm encountering resistence. I have recently discovered why I'm getting grief, but just because I know why, doesn't make it easier to deal with.

Add to that, currently DD eats a hot lunch 4/5 weekdays - if I send food it will have to be cold, and the only cold stuff she eats is turkey and pb&j (which you can't send to daycare b/c of peanut allergies in other kids).

Re: Organic Moms - Question

Good question. I'm beginning to look at day cares and DS only eats organic foods. I am going to be visiting one on Monday, curious to see what they will say regarding his meals. My DS is 10 months old and I have not started table foods. He only drinks his bottle and earth best or nature's promises jar meals such as veggies, fruit and dinners.

Most of the places I have visited seem to have exceptions for infants but not toddlers, so you should be OK.
