Re: xrays and pregnancy

I had asked my OB about this, because I had an x-ray when I was told I miscarried, only to find out that I may not have miscarried ((I did end up miscarrying, but I still had the same fear)).

She told me that they do that as a precaution, however the radiation is soo minimal in an xray that it will not effect a baby. Unless of course, you have very very many xrays.

My husband is an X ray tech and he said they should have shielded you, regardless of whether you may be preggers or not.
did they put a lead shield on ya?

Re: xrays and pregnancy

If you are pregnant, you are so early it won't make a difference. Really, I would not worry about it.

I broke foot when I was 15 weeks pregnant and they HAD to do an x-ray, while I was not happy about it, they took all the necessary percautions, and my DD is perfectly fine.

Re: xrays and pregnancy

yeah, i had the little lead skirt on. the xray tech was like freaking out though so it really made me nervous. they did four xrays in total. all of which were pointing away from my abdomen (if that makes any difference)

i was nervous about how early it is* (might be) because i know how rapidly the cell division takes place in the beginning and i know that radiation damages cells, etc.

thank you all for your responses. much appreciated!

Re: xrays and pregnancy

I had xrays done when i was 8 weeks and carried to full term with no complications.
The dr says that the radiation is minimal and it is only a precautionary matter and that the necessity can out way any possible risks.
