Other costs incurred when buying a home...
How can I get an idea of how muchthings like attorney fees, inspections, and home insurance would be?
TIA!
ETA: Is Title Insurance the same as Homeowners insurance
Forgive me for being so dense- I'm just really new to this and even wikipedia is speaking another language!

here's a sampleClosing Costs estimates- NYC
eta- title insurance is different than homeowners- homeowners protects you against break-ins, damage etc
title insurance insures that no one tries to come and claim the property after you buy it

Yep
Also you need to pay the taxes for the rest of the year up front. So if your taxes are 6,000 for a year you need to bring to closing 3K.

Might sound stupid but I found the book House buying For Dummies to be really helpful when it came to estimating costs for everything

Re: Other costs incurred when buying a home...
I know if you filled out a pending application on eloan.com, they used to give you a really good "good faith estimate" online that listed just about all the costs you would have to pay. Not sure if they still do this, you can check. You don't have to have them pull your credit or anything, just get a quick quote.
They base it by zip code so they are usually pretty accurate when it comes to title insurance, mortgage tax, etc.
The stuff that won't be on there will probably be your attorney's fees (separate from the bank attorney listed in the GFE), as well as your inspection fee.
Homeowners insurance will probably be somewhere around $1000 a year give or take on the size of your house.
