OPK's - those damn lines!

So, I started using OPK's last month - i 'thought' it indicated i was O'ing on CD17 (because i had the 2 dark lines)
This month on CD15 (yesterday) I got the two dark lines, and so thought that meant i would O yesterday or today.
So today i take the test and theres one dark and one faint line. WTH?
If i had two dark lines yesterday, wouldn't i also have them today?

i don't understand these tests..

You're considering as surging when the test line is darker than the control line...

Yes it probably means your surge was yesterday - but you could be ovulating today or tomorrow.

different OPKs have different test results. you need to read the instructions.

some OPKs are positive when the test is AS DARK or DARKER than the control line.

some tests are only positive when the test line is darker.

plus you need to make sure that you test in the afternoon. most women surge in the morning but it takes a few hours for it to show up in your urine. you should ideally be testing after 12pm after holding your urine for 4 hours.

and there is no reason to test again after getting a positive OPK. one you detect your surge you should BD that day and the next 2 if possible. you will most likely O within 12-36 hours after your surge, but it's possible to O a day or two later.

but the MOST important thing to keep in mind is that it is always better for the sperm to be waiting for the egg, not vice versa. the sperm have further to go, and in an ideal environment, they can live for 2-5 days. the egg only lives for 12-24 hours if it has not been fertilized.

this is why i got the Clear blue monitor b/c i couldnt make heads or tails of those lines. i felt like i needed to be a rocket scientist to figure that crap out.

That makes sense, you were surging when you had both of the dark lines. You won't necessarily have both dark the day after as well. This is normal, you will most likely O 24-48 hrs after surge.

I get the OPK's with the smiley face now, it takes out the guess work. I've wasted more time staring at lines in my life than I should have!!!

I have the same problem I just started using OPKs this month. I stared on cd15 whis was this past tuesday. I am doing it at aroun 11:00 or 11:15 in the morning. I can't wait till later on in the day because of work at the moment. Plus in the instructions it states that I can test at any time during the day and the some women prefer in the morning. So I am a little confused about that because a lot of you ladies state otherwise. Anyways, my test line yesterday appeared to be lighter and when I tested today it was the same thing, but when I compared todays to yesterdays. Yesterdays appears just as dark as the control line. So I am wondering if that was my surge (yesterday). Well, just to be on the safe side I made my husband BD with me and have concluded that it is probably better for us to BD everyday till CD24. I am going to continue to use the OPKs though.
