Another spin off to God Parents
Ok lets say you have a family tradition on Godparents.. Should it be followed through by the God parent or disregarded? The Godparent is very aware of my tradition but has refused to honor it.. What do you think..

My stance on this...yes. Choosing Godparents is simply put, to nurture and educate my child in our faith, IMO. What is the point of naming them Godparents if they do not believe or honor how DH and I view/practice our faith? Just my opinion on it though.

Re: Another spin off to God Parents
My DH thinks its no big deal.. He says he doesnt even know his GOD parents.. And is swaring I dont know mine (but I do) My Godmother was a very big part of my life when I was little.. We spent time together and she always had a special place in my heart.. Now that I am older she is not involved anymore.. But i still get a birthday card from her every single year.. There is a bond there.. No she didnt take me to church or talk to me about God but she was special.... Thats the most important thing to me.. My future baby God mother said i am putting too much pressure on her to come here to visit and see the baby.. She lives in the Bronx about 20-25 min from my house.. I never said she has to come every weekend but I did say i hope you come to see her mre than 3x a year for the holidays only.. I even made DH promise he would bring to her so its not a burden for her to come here.. She is already starting with that..
Also when we first asked her she was so excited about getting the baby's dress and cross. Now that i have insisted on spending the day with her to go together to pick it out she is refusing to buy it and now refused to even get the cross.. I am so hurt and disappointed am I over reacting? I would never do this to anyone that has asked me to be the Godmother..

Um, no. I do not think you are overreacting AT ALL. Honestly, it sounds like she's thinks it's more of a burden than an honor. I would seriously reconsider naming this person as the Godmother, IMO. I'm sorry you and DH aren't seeing eye to eye on it, and I'm sure it's making things more difficult for you. But if it's important to you, it should be important to him as well.

Re: Another spin off to God Parents
Okay, so I am the dope who said no, but only because I didn't read your paragraph first. I read your question as, should the godparents follow the mother's traditions and not the fathers. I know some people who feel this way. I think it should be a joint decision by both parents what type of faith and how they choose to follow that faith.
So all in all, with your real question. I think that your child's godparents should request your wishes. I'm sorry you are in the position you're in.

Re: Another spin off to God Parents
Wait ...WHAT???? Why is this person the Godmother and acting that way? I believe it is an honor and I would honor in return anything the Mom wanted.
Why would she not want to see her godchild as often as possible? 20-25 minutes? I drive more then that for a play date daily!
And the dress and the cross is something I think is normal tradition...But I just dont get why she would flat out say no?
I would actually be REALLY hurt by this?
Am I reading too much into it?

Re: Another spin off to God Parents
I think godparents are supposed to be there to support and aide the parents raise the child. That means adhering to the parents principles, beliefs, etc. in relation to the child. IMHO, If they dont want to be an active part in your child's why should they get such an honor.
