Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

My mom got married at 21.. had my oldest sister at 23

I got married at 19 and had DS when I was 20

Tell her to mind her own!!!! Chat Icon

I think getting married younger back then was TOTALLY the norm. Way more than it is nowadays.

The way I see things, it doesn't matter if your 20 or 50 when you get married and have kids as long as your a responsible, loving parent.. which people are ready to be at all different ages. Whatever is right for them. Chat Icon

Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

My mom married my dad in 1967 when they were 19. She was 21 when I was born. One of my former co-worker got married at 25. She is 53 now. She has her 1st son at 27. So no.... your co-worker is full of it!!!!

NOWADAYS!!! people are waiting to get married and it's very common to get married in your early 30's and have your first child by your early to mid 30's. Especially in NY.

Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

My parents got married young, and I think by the time my mom was 25 she was done having kids.

She had a baby in
1974
1975
1977

They are in their late 50's and still together.

That woman is jsut nuts and bitter about something.

Totally agree! I got married at 28 preggo at 29 and had dd at 30. I couldnt have accomplished what I have nor was I ready when I was 23/24. Thats how I chose to live my life but I would say its more of the norm now then back then.

I think that the woman has an issue with you that she is not expressing, something unrelated to your parents ages or what time you go to bed. She is not ready to get to whatever her real issue is, for whatever reason.

Some of the responses here are inconsiderate of the life choices of other people.

Actually, Nope...not really. We are usually very good friends at work with the MAJOR excpetion of todays disagreement which is about my mother which is a no enter zone. Shes in my office all the time BSing...nothing to do with me. I think she is bitter about the topic bc she is not the norm and she may feel guilty. Thats where its stemming from.

There definitely sounds like a bitterness there because her response is completely over the top & uncalled for. It's one thing to march to a beat of a different drummer or to do things in your own time but to bash someone else or worse THEIR MOM...yikes.

I know for my mom's generation, she was one of the younger moms in our neighborhood.

Honestly, the ONLY thing I could think of was that she was VERY annoyed on her cell phone at her dd who left for spain and told her shes not coming back. They got into a fight bc she was paying her tuiotion all along blah blah blah... Maybe she was just having a bad day. In terms of me and her, like I said...we've always gotten along well. Even after she said it, she came back into my office and was talking about watches we both bought online a few hrs ago. I didnt see tension...

edited...did you mean bitterness about getting married later on or bitterness between her and I? I responded bitterness about her and I but I wasnt clear...

Bitterness about something in her life. I think you nailed it on the head. Her daughter upset her. As wrong as it was, she was upset about the disconnect with her daughter & instead of being angry at the person she's afraid of losing, she took it out on you.

This is how you describe a conversation with someone you are really good friends with?

Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

My parents were 20 when married
21 in 1971 for my brother
25 in 1975 for me

My husbands parents were even YOUNGER! (well his mother anyway) I have no clue how old she is but I think its close to 50. Means she had my husband when she was a teenager!! Chat Icon He's the oldest of three, but they are spread further apart.

I remember when i was 25, i called my Dad (who turned 50) and asked how he felt to be half a century old, his answer was twice as good as a quarter century old with two kids! Chat Icon I said I had it better since I was single with no kids at the same age he had two!

Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

All of my freinds all have parents that were in their early 20's. My mom was 19 when she got married. What I don't understand is how someone who is married can be considered slutty for having children at that age.

Re: OMG...I am SOOOO FURIOUS...

My mother had me when she was 38. I suppose it was more unusual then but I wonder what your coworker would deduce about my mother. How does one go about making a generalization about an entire generation and a random conclusion about someone she doesn't even know? That is just bizarre. And her conclusion doesn't even make sense.

she sounds like she just had to pick on you for something or another Chat Icon super childish. anyone with young kids knows you don't stay up late just for the heck of it... you cherish sleep and get it when you can! this woman either lives under a rock, or is jealous as heck of you
