Do you heat the house in May???????

Hi! Just wondering if everyone is still keeping their heat on?? My husband is insisting on 70 degrees and I want it completely shut off and I'll just wear long sleeves. Is keeping the heat on 70 crazy or is it me? I dont want to keep paying the high heat bill in May. Thanks

No and even in the winter we never set the temps above 66, 68 if it was brutal out

We had turned ours off a few weeks ago, and just put it back on tonite to get the chill out of the air/dampness feeling.

Same here. Only if we are freezing do we turn it up much above that. If cold, my DH says put on a sweatshirt and drink some tea. Chat Icon

It has been off for a few week but I put it back on last night. It was a bit too cold. I turned it down again today though.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

ours is off! But your heat will not come on at all if the temperature reaches what your thermostat is set at

Turned the heat off in April, won't be on again until November.

Ditto. We might cave and put it on earlier this year, considering we'll have a newborn in the house.

Right now, our oil burner is completely shut off and cleaned for the season. We have oil only for heat, gas for everything else.

I had mine off since the heatwave we had, but just turned it back on last night. MIL is visting from Vegas and she was cold - otherwise I would have left it off.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

I haven't turned ours "off". I figure, until it's time to switch to the A/C mode, it doesn't matter if it's off or on. I just have the thermostat set for 66 most of the time (64 at night). If the temps require the heat to come on, it does. If it's warm enough, it doesn't come on.

we keep our heat on 70 as well but we have a two year old. If we didn't have a child then we would def. turn our heat off.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

we turned ours off about 3 weeks ago but the last 2 days we had to run it through to take the chill out of the house. We never keep our house above 68 though in the winter, but w/the rain, the house being at 67 seems chilly.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

Ours is off, but with the construction going on (people constantly in and out, doors/windows open) during this "cold" stretch we did turn it on the other night for a little while - at 60 degrees - to get the chill out, then turned it off again.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

Depends on the temperature outside. One night last week it was in the 30s... the heat was definitely on!

We turned ours off about 2 weeks ago. It was kind of chilly last night but I just put on a sweater and socks and an extra blanket on the bed.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

Just spoke with the people downstairs about this (we share the heat). The weather is funny so it has the potential for being turned on day by day. They have two little ones downstairs so it is a comfy temp.

DH put it on too but I shut it off.

Re: Do you heat the house in May???????

I could never turn it off at night because it drops in the 50's and even the 40's! I'm cold. Plus DD doesn't sleep with a blanket and I don't want her to be cold. We sleep with it at 72! Our bills are ridiculous.
