How do you know what diapers to use?
I am having a boy and I just read the Luvs post...
How will I know which brand to use? Trial and error?

You don't! 
it really is trial and error and it totally depends on your child. EVERYone will tell you different diapers work for their child.
What worked for us in the newborn stage (pampers) were HORRIBLE for DD when she moved into size 2, when we switched to Huggies (have used them ever since).
They're all different!!

Pretty much. If you ask 10 people, you'll get at least 11 different opinions... 
Some diapers that are horrible on one DC are great on another.

Trial and error...
We started with Pampers swaddlers as that is what the hospital uses and IMO they are the softest ones I have found.
Someone gave me huggies at my shower so I used them too but wasnt happy with teh overall fit. I bought CVS on a BOGO sale and they worked fine but I thought they were "rough".
I tried Luvs because they were on sale at Target and said what the heck. They worked well to me they are comparable to Pampers and at BJs they are $10 per box cheaper than pampers.
Some diapers you will find that DC poops or pees out of etc...what works for one baby doesnt have the same success for another.

I agree with above posts - its trial and error. For DD, Pampers Swaddlers and then Pampers Cruisers are the only ones that work. We tried a few other brands and she leaked through them all!

trial and error! We're still using the pampers swaddlers for Samantha that they used in the hospital. So far I have no issues with them.

It's all trial and error. What works for one baby may not necessarily work for another. While DS does well in Pampers, we're still searching for a diaper that's cheaper that works for DS.
