DS had his Neuro Evaluation today

So, my ped left and we stayed with the practice and now use the LNP. She is very nice, but I think she is a bit over zealous with referals.

That being said, she wanted us to see a Neurologist because she thought my ds' head was a bit large. Now, she has seen my head and saw DH's (very large head) and still wants the Neuro evaluation.

So off we go to see the top Neuro at Cornell (DH's dad is a dr there) and $500.00 later, I learned that ds just has a BIG HEAD!!!!

On one level, I am glad but another part of me, I am annoyed because I knew that he was fine. He was meeting all of his milestones and even exceeding them.

So, now I know, I will always have a hard time buying hats for ds!

I have children with large heads too....

Even my daughter who has Down Syndrome...and...by all accounts should have a small head (b/c of the DS) has a large head...

Admittedly...I have a big head too.

I also have a big head... and wierdly, I'm sort of sad that DS takes after DH and has a rather small head
well, at least he'll be able to wear hats!

Yeah, it was a nuissance and a waste of $500, but it is rather reassuring....

I'm glad they haven't diagnosed people like your family and me wth some medical diagonsis like "capito gigantus"

I met a neighbor today and she said "Well, that's good. Rather have a big head then be a pin head"

I know it was the right thing to do and I am glad with the results!

Now, if we can just get a few more words going! Receptive language is great but out put is lagging a bit! I sense a language explosion coming soon!

I think doctors are going a bit crazy with referrals to neuros these days in regards to head size...my friend JUST went through this with their son. Her DH has a big noggin and the baby was developing fine...and same as you, a few hundred dollars later he just has a big head...

I know its better safe than sorry....but I just don't know, it seemed over the top to me.

DD has a big head too - she takes after her mommy. Ah well, no hat but lots of brains

We went through the same thing, his head measured big - really, his percentile went from 50% to 75%. The ped wanted him to have a head sonogram. He did and they noticed what they thought was excess fluid - hydrocephalus. We went to Cornell too and saw a neurologist - DS was meeiting all milestones and looked great, but they wanted to do a MRI and him to see a nuerosurgeon. We saw the best at cornell and he said that DS was fine - just that his ventricles (?) were larger than normal which could be caused by genetics (DH has big head) or that part is growing a little quicker than the rest. We have to go back in three months, but the Dr. said he looks great. HOpefully, the next visit will be just as great. It is really scary when the ped started talking about shunts.

When my brother was born they sent him for test for his big head, they all came back fine. When my 2nd brotehr was born my mom said ahh dont worry he just has a big head.

When my son was born at his 2mth appt his ped mentioned his big head but it was proportionate with the rest of him. I told her not to worry my family has a history of big heads!
DS is 16 months and wears a 4T hat. Its insane!!!

But at least you have the piece of mind! Glad your DS can join all of us in teh big noggin club!!!

So glad to hear you were right in the end, but it does stink you had to pay to be told what you already knew.
