Those who go to a group OB practice..

Did you ever consider changing OBs?

After I graduated from the RE, I went with the first OB they could give me an appt. with. It was a new OB practice for me since I did not like the one I went to prior to the RE.

My doctor, while he seems to be qualified and knowledgable, has ZERO personality. He rushes me in and out of appointments..last time I was there, he was like any questions? No, ok good. I was like WAIT - yes I do have questions Chat Icon I mean it took me 4 years to conceive this child and I have lots of questions lol! Then the other day I was there to see the NP because of my cold (who I really like) and he saw me from across the reception area - I smiled and said hi, and he completely ignored me. I hate that!! Now, in the beginning they told me I could change if I wanted and towards the end in the later weeks I would be rotating who I see since we dont know who will be on call when I deliver. I really would like to change BUT I feel like it would be really awkward...and then what if he is on call the day I go into labor??

I just feel like I deserve better treatment. I have a ton of questions that I feel rushed to ask. I always see ladies on here saying "At xyz weeks, my OB said that's when I have to start blah blah"..well for me I am completely clueless. No idea when to register for the hospital, no clue what classes I should be taking or when...

What should I do? Chat Icon

I would defiantely ask to schedule your next appt with a different Dr. The first one I saw- he was nice, but like you, was not really all about the questions. He wanted me in and out. The second time I saw him I had had a miscarriage and he was ok, but a different Dr. performed the D&C and I had a follow-up with the 2nd Dr. and he was SO much more approachable and very willing to answer anything. If I say I don't have any other questions, he asks if I'm sure.
They tried to schedule me with Dr. #1 again and i just said I'd like to see #2. This week I'll see another one, but I don't intend on ever making an appt with #1 again. Just didn't make me feel really comfortable.

And as far as feeling awkward, think of it this way, if he can't even acknowledge a friendly wave from you, he probably is too involved in himself to feel offended.

Good luck!

I go to a big practice also and hate the fact that you feel like your in a factory. I would ask to schedule with a different dr for your next appt. Also i would make sure to tell the dr to wait before leaving the room and that you have a lot of questions.
Yes i do hear alot of women on here saying that they're dr's tell them when certain things go on and others do come here to ask when certain tests and what not are expected.
I think it is a matter of how aggressive you are with the dr. In the end what it comes down to is that this is your body your pregnancy and you have the right to ask as many or as little questions as you want. As with any dr's office you have to be your own advocate, while they may remember your face they may not remember your specific issues every time you walk in the door. So for me it works best to tell the dr from the beginning what im concerned about, and keep on reminding my dr about the issues that i have.
Sure i apologize for being a roayl PITA but i don't let up until i get my answers and feel confortable.

i honestly would switch yes....if it just so happens that your doc is there when you deliver - it's just happenstance anyways!

i personally have seen MY OWN OB maybe 4 times throughout the pregnancy....and every time - i'm so happy because i just adore her! Don't get me wrong - the other docs are nice and personable, etc...but i just love my doc to death! she always walks in, sees my list of questions and grabs it - to answer them for me!

being that we're going to be an induction (likely) - we already decided that we'll go with the date that SHE is on call at the hospital!

You should change. It won't be uncomfortable. I like my dr but due to scheduling I had to make appointments with the other drs. A different dr was on call when I delivered.
I liked seeing the other doctors because sometimes they had a different opinion about things.

Re: Those who go to a group OB practice..

if you don't feel comfortable with your OB I would definitely consider talking with the practice about it.
I personally love my practice, all but one anyway. The one I don't care for is professional but distracted all the time by other things going on. From what I understand it isn't just me.
I called 4 practices and asked questions and interviewed dr's and well as some of thew staff before I made my final decision.
It's your body, it's your baby and you have to be comfortable!!
