I think what she did is totally reasonable. Next time she needs a hair cut I suggest that you pin her hair up with a paper clip, as a little reminder. I'm sure she wouldn't mind. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Seriously though, I would say something. Chat Icon

Maureen....that was COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE!!! You absolutely need to speak to the director. She needs to be reprimanded. Those clips aren't the safest thing either! I'm so angry for you right now. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..

Since he's only 2.5, I don't think he is capable of understanding embarrasment, so I wouldn't worry about that.

If his hair is constantly in his eyes and interfering with his work, I can see why the teacher would have a problem with it. A binder clip is a bit over the top though. Would you have been upset if it was a plain ol' rubberband instead?

I'm not a parent, but I'm so beyond pizzed for you!

I worked in a daycare for many years and I know that the director of the daycare I worked at would want to know about instances like this. It's a problem that needs to be corrected. If she's doing this to your DC, she's most likely doing similar things to other parents' DC. Chat Icon

I would be VERY angry. She totally crossed the line. It is not her place to decide or even voice her opinion on how long Johnny's hair should be. If she thinks it is causing him to trip, she could have told you this when you picked him up. What she did was extremely inappropriate and you should definitely contact the director.

And not for nothing but girls have long hair ,does she do this to them also? Is she doing it b/c she thinks bys shouldn't have long hair and was hinting to you to cut it b/c of her personal feelings? Oh man Im would have it out with her !!

ditto, I would have FLIPPEd, my son has long hair, and I'd be very pi$$ed if a teacher did that to him. Ive seen boys with VERY long hair, and no need for a paper clip ! Chat Icon

I would let a superior know. you need to document everything these days. say that you dont think it's appropriate that a boy has his hair pinned back, and with a pape clip no less ??
I would def let someone know incase it happens again.

maybe an email to officially document it.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..

Umm I would be pizzed. I saw the picture and IMO his hair is not even that long. Besides a simple I think you should cut his hair is much better than a binder clip on his head. That is ridiculous IMO and I would definitely confront her about it and let her know that its none of her business how long his hair is and she is never to pull another stunt like that.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..

I would report her. That is completely out of line - terrible to do to your DS and just downright rude. If she had a problem with his hair she could have nicely said to you - ya know i think his hair is getting in his face a bit or something like that. THAT said, from the pic you posted your son is absolutely gorgeous and I LOVE his hair. Everywhere we go I see boys around 2 with very long hair often in their eyes so this is the style. I just got DS's hair cut and while it is out of his eyes now Chat Icon it is still long - if someone did that to my DS I would go NUTS! So a BINDER CLIP in his hair isn't MORE uncomfortable then a few strands of hair in his face????? RIDICULOUS!

I would be so pi$$ed!! Who the he11 is she to tell you your DS needs his haircut??? And to pin it back with a binder clip?? Is she freakin' kidding?? Who does that??

OMG, I am so angry for you right now.

Edit to correct spelling.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..

And if the paper clip had fallen out and he choked on it , what would their excuse be?
This is YOUR Child. They have ZERO right to tell you or hint to you to cut his/her hair.
There are some religions that actually do not allow hair cuts till a certain age.
I would call the director of the school and tell them about it. I am sorry but it is dangerous. Paper clips are easily choking hazzards. And the teachers are out of line.

Honestly...if the child was uncomfortable and having a difficult time seeing...I dont see what she did as a big deal...(Honestly Id be happy that she realized he was uncomfy and tried to make it better)

BUT how she spoke to you- COMPLETLY unacceptable and inappropriate!

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..

sorry to crash but i read this an i am seeing RED for you

whether you want to cause confrontation or not -- this teacher's behavior needs to be addressed.

she has no right telling you how long your child's hair should be -- and the paperclip was a ridiclious thing to do.

it appears she has issues with proper communication since she is not letting you know what is going on and then unleashes on you during the IEP sessions. she needs to be reprimanded for this.

please -- go to the administrator and let them know that you are VERY upset about her actions. she needs to understand that there are boundaries for a teacher, and she has CLEARLY overstepped them.

if nothing else, perhaps if YOU say something, other parents who have similiar issues might be able to step forward as well.

good luck!!!

I don't think he knows embarrasment yet either...at least it doesn't seem so..so that part didn't bother me too much.

But yes, I would have been equally as annoyed if it were a rubberband...his hair is not crazy long, it was one little piece that fell to the top of his eye..its NEVER a problem at our house or when we take him to the park etc...all of a sudden this morning it was a huge enough problem that she had to take all his hair and do that??

It looked like when a mom takes their baby girls hair and puts it in one sprout in the middle of their head..which is cute on a) a little girl and b) with an appropriate clip. Not on a little boy with a huge paperclip of all things!!! And they really twisted and twisted his hair so it would stick inside the clip and not come loose...

You should have seen my face when I walked in the door of the class!!! They were in the middle of music time and I immediately walked over and undid the clip..the assistants in the room didn't say a word, they looked uncomfortable,...

If it was making him uncomfortable, she could have used a hair tie, used gel in the interim until she could have asked the mom to tie it back in the future.

The thing is, I don't understand HOW in the world she thought it was necessary to go to that measure. I posted a pic on page 1 of his hair..its really not long. I could understand a bit more maybe if it was crazy long and he couldn't see.....but I really would never let it get like that, I am good about realizing when it needs a trim or is bothering him. THIS is the part annoying me the most!

WOW- just Wow!! What nerve of the teacher to do that!

Needless to say, this would really upset me. First of all- if you don't want to cut your son's hair ever, then that is your perogative! It is not any of her business at all!

But that's the thing . . . according to the OP the child hasn't been having any difficulty seeing at home. The teacher did it b/c she thought the child's hair was too long (and she's made comments in the past).
