I am willing to beg--please help me
Hi pet lovers,
I need your help now more than ever.
I am saddened to say that I still have 4 of those kittens that I wrote so frequently about over the past 8 months. They are STILL living in an upstairs bedroom with the mama cat.
A fellow LIFer had offered to take them way back in January, and my mom had promised that she'd drive them up. She broke her promise, and now that LIFer can't help me anymore.
I am absolutely heartbroken, but our last and final option is to bring them to the pound, where they are so overrun with cats that they will surely be put to sleep. I might be able to deal with that if it were going to be done humanely--but here in NC, dogs and cats are put to death via gas chamber.
I have 4 gorgeous, loving cats that need good homes. My mom is finally driving up to NY this coming week (we are having DD baptized there, literally the only way I could get her to drive up) and had planned on bringing the cats with her to their new home.
Please, please, please...if any of you can open your home to a loving cat, or if you know of someone who can, I would be eternally grateful. I will never be able to live with myself if I have to bring these cats to the pound.
Thanks so much...I can send pictures if any of you are interested. Please, ask everyone you can if they are interested. I don't know how I will go on knowing that I "saved" 5 cats that then needed to be put to death.

Oh my God there has to be something we can do to help.
Does anyone here know of any rescue organizations in NY that could help?
This can't be happening. I know a lot of the ladies here work with rescues etc... someone has to be able to help.
I will keep my ears open for ANYONE looking for a cat but in the meantime we need to find out about a shelter or something here in NY...
My heart is breaking with you...

I will take some more recent pics tonight and post them ASAP.
I do want to stress that this is NOT the fault of the LIFer who was going to help us out. My mom had promised me that she'd drive them up to NY in JANUARY, and she kept putting off, despite my constant prodding. If any of you have seen my recent post on the Relationships board, you'll know that I'm close to the end of my rope as it is... 
I called NSAL today but I'm going to try to call again on Monday--I spoke to a receptionist, but I'm going to try to speak to someone "higher up".
I've raised these little guys since the day they were born...but I've come to realize that NC is NOT a cat-friendly place. Everyone wants dogs and despises cats.

I haven't...but I will! It's kinda hard for me to do the "leg work" since I'm in NC. But I will be on the phone with everyone and anyone who might be able to help!

i WISH I could take one but my dh has deathly allergies to cats and birds..
I just want to say I am so sorry this turned into a nightmare for you.. "no good deed goes done unpunished" this is the perfect example for this saying..
I forget if they are spayed and neutered? ad whe exactly are you comming?

Part of the nightmare has been making arrangements to have them spayed and neutered. It cost us $180 to have the mama cat spayed. The only "low-cost" spay/neuter program around here is through the Humane Society. We're on the waiting list, and have been for about 3 months. The list is approximately 6 months long.
In the meantime, we had the one male kitten spayed, so that at the very least, we wouldn't have new litters while we were waiting. So we have 5 cats in total--3 kittens still need to be spayed. We are planning to do that in NY when we come up.
We are flying in on Tuesday, but my mom is driving up on Monday (she was supposed to be delivering the cats, but that didn't work out because she dragged her feet). My mom will be there for 2 weeks, and has offered to bring the 3 remaining kittens to be spayed. It's just a matter now of finding where they will go once that's all done.
We actually considered bringing them ALL to NSAL to be "fixed", even though 2 already were, and just not picking them up. I feel absolutely awful about doing that, but at least I know they'd be in a safe place. Still thinking about that one...

Beth, I can't convince DH to get a cat, even though I'd love one.  We have our dog and I'm still fighting to get her a playmate!  I have a better shot of a 2nd dog than a cat.
Anyway, I know it's far out- but this is where I got my cat from when I was younger. Maybe contact them and see what they say? I know they offer low cost spaying options as well.  HTH!

I know that Island Rescue spays for approx $59. I am "pushing" DH to help you out (which would in turn would help me and sushi out)

I'm going to call them right now! I have a call in to Save A Pet and NSAL, we'll see what they say. But I do need to make arrangements to have "the girls" spayed while we're there.

Thank you!!!
This whole ordeal has made me realize that I have to do something about this situation in NC--it's ridiculous that there's ONE option for low-cost spay/neuter, and the waiting list is 6 months long
My DH has made me PROMISE that if another stray ever shows up on my doorstep that I am to leave it alone!!!!!! I definitely can't blame him, he's been a saint!!

I feel so awful... I would take one but with 3 cats and 2 babies our house is busting at the seams. I wish I had a suggestion.. Iwill try asking around to see if any one I know would like to have one.

I know its not a popular opinion, but at least they'll still be alive. Why not let them live outdoors? You can continue to feed them and provide them with shelter, but at least they won't be stuck in a room in your house. Of course they would need to be fixed to keep them from having more kittens.

Ok, so here's the update:
I spoke to the owner of Save-a-Pet. I told her my plight, and she agreed to take the cats!!!  They leave for NY tomorrow! The only downside is that she will only take friendly, sociable cats. For some reason, one of our cats is VERY scared and will hide whenever we come in. My mom has agreed to keep that one...but because she's living with US for the foreseeable future, that doesn't exactly mean the end of this situation. But that's a whole OTHER story

Honestly, I would send all of them to Save A Pet ... perhaps out of the current situation the scaredy cat will come around.
