Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
and I need your help getting past the fact that it's a male. I've always going to a female. The idea of it creeps me out a little.

I go to a male and i've never had an issue with it. In fact I've only seen males. Not on purpose, it just always worked out that way lol They always have a nurse in the room with them also so its not really uncomfortable. Don't worry, you'll be fine

I have had 1 female and 3 male OB/GYNs. You might feel nervous at first but after a few minutes you will be relaxed. I always go in thinking hes seen it all before, multiple times a day and that always helps me to relax.

I have gone to 3 females and 1 male. I was super nervous at first too. Honestly I love my male OB now and would never ever go back to another female again. He is is much more caring and gentle than any female dr. I have ever gone too.

Re: Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
I always preferred males over females. To me, it feels more natural for a man to be "down there." I also never subscribed to the theory of a doctor needing to have the same parts as I do to know their craft. I just need a good diagnostician and a decent bedside manner. They don't teach men and women different things in med school. You will be fine. Good luck!

Re: Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
I have only seen male OBs. They are all so very professional and there is always a nurse in the room. Just don't think of them as a man, think of them as a medical professional-my current OB is very cool and when we complete our move, I will still look to see a male OB.

I've gone to both and I have no issues with either. As long as their bedside manner is good (chatty, but not too chatty, quick with the exam, etc) it is what it is.

Re: Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
I went to a male for the first time ever recently too...and the experience was actually much better than with a female for some reason. The male doctor was more gentle and kind. I was very surprised and ended up being very pleased!
THEN..he left the practice! DAMMIT!

The one time I had to go to a guy OBGYN, it turned out that it was one of my camper's dad. Yikes. Never again.

Re: Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
*sorry to crash*
I have always had a female OBGYN. When I got PG, I was part of a very large group dr. I decided I wanted more personal" attetion, and on a very srtong reccomendation, I went to a male single paractice OBGYN. I love him. Seriously. He is the greatest. I would never ever consider even letting anyone else see me, even his sister who is a midwife
Btw, Males are usually a little more gentle than females....

Reading all the replies has put me at ease a little. I am just sick of my current obgyn who doesn't answer my questions & brushes everything off. My appt is next Monday so I'll bump the post with my experience ..lol

Re: Going to a male obgyn for the first time ever...
the first gyno i went to was a female -- and i just didn't like her for some reason...the way she treated and examined me.
since then--males only and i LOVE it. something about the way they treat me...its like because they are males i almost feel like they want to be extra sensitive to our needs and are gentler.
i have never had DH in the room with me though -- somehow i think that would be so awkward. i always worry that if he saw me feeling so uncomfortable (cause really male or female - its just an unplesant exam all around!) - he might want to punch the doctor or something.
