Winter moms: when did you start taking your newborn to public places?

DS is 6.5 weeks old. I haven't taken him anywhere except to the doctor. He isn't getting his shots for another few weeks. I'd love to get out of the house, but I'm worried that DS will catch something if I take him to a public place. I don't think I'd be as concerned if it weren't cold and flu season. Plus, I've heard the stomach virus has been going around.

When did you take your newborn to public places? Did you wait until after the first round of shots? Where did you go?

Not by choice but around 2 weeks we took him out when his great grandmother passed away. Since the end of last week I've been taking him out pretty much daily. He will be 1 month on the 30th.

At first I said I wasn't going to take him to any public places, but honestly, I just keep him in his Bundle me with a hat when we are outside and I leave him in the carseat in public places and he is fine.

I limit the amount of people who hold him to family only at their homes, and make sure no one is sick/washes their hands before handling him.

How are you not going completely stir-crazy by now? (Or are you LOL)!

I took my dd out to my parents house when she was close to 3 weeks old...after she had her Hep B shot...
(not her first round shots) I also went to the mall and babiesrus...

I would limit who touches your dc to just family..and the rest of the time their in the carset anyway..

I know you must be going stir crazy in the house...I did...LOL..

My ped told me 8 weeks for public places!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've taken him to the ped (obviously)..but that's about it!!! It's making me a bit nuts....but taking it one day at a time!!!

I'm totally going nuts. We're in CT and we've had a ton of storms recently. The weather has definitely kept me inside. I went out with him on Friday for my 6 week pp appointment. It was the first time I went out with him by myself. It was so nice to get out. I think I was in a better mood that day b/c I got some fresh air. It defintiely made me want to get out of the house even more.

I'd love to go shopping b/c I miss it, but I don't really want to bring him to the mall. I may just go out for a little while and leave him with DH this weekend. At this point, I think going to the grocery store seems like a wonderful trip.

i am dying to go outside walking with my baby!! i feel it's been too cold though so we've been stuck inside.

so far, she has gone to the ped.'s office and on the last trip we went to applebees for lunch on the way home . she was 3 wks. and the place was pretty much empty...
she was asleep in the carrier so we took advantage of the opportunity. i wouldnt necessarily do it again. i certainly dont feel comfortable taking her to the mall yet...

all i really want to do is go outside walking i cant wait for the weather to warm up a bit.
i'll feel comfortable taking her to public places when she is a month old although i will still try to limit her exposure and only take her if necessary.

we went to the mall- didn't let anyone touch her- nothing bad happened- we had to get out of the house!

8 weeks old in public. She was born in late Feb so in late march/early april I started taking her on walks in our neighborhood.

When I took dd to one of her first appointments there was another infant being rushed to the hospital with a high fever and they said would probably need a spinal tap. Freaked me out enough to keep her away from people.

3 weeks old. My sanity depended on it.

I took her for walks, to the drug store, to the post office, etc. I had to get out of the house and I found that she was calmer when I put her in her carriage so off we went.

DS was 6 days old when we took him to the mall. I needed to get out of the house.

2 weeks after birth, we brought him out to dinner with us, out to the stores etc. No one came near him, and we had to get out of the house.

DD is 9 weeks and hasn't really gone anywhere except the dr. Yesterday for teh first time we took her to the bank with us, we had to do something IMP. Well of course an old guy next to her was hacking up a storm, so I made DH go sit in an empty cubicle with her. That alone worried me, so no, I don't have plans to take her anywhere else until about 2.5-3 mths. She is getting her first shots next week.

I went out to a bridal shower the other day and came home with an intestinal bug myself. Let's hope I don't give THAT to her.

I am going a little stir crazy, sure, but it's just not worth it to me to take her out in public just yet. I have gone out by myself though when DH gets home from work...just to stores, etc.

I pretty much have been taking her everywhere since 3 weeks. Its good to expose DC to germs and bacteria to build up antibodies.

My son was born in January and we were out with him everywhere at about 2 weeks. I would rather have died than stayed in the house. I started taking him to baby massage classes weekly at 6 weeks.

Just about 3 months...maybe 11 weeks or something....other than that just to my moms.

We waited 2 months. It was a bad winter anyway, really cold and ice storms.

DD was born right before Christmas.

I took her to a restaurant at 2.5 weeks. It was during off-hours and we were the only people there. She stayed in her carseat.

I took her to a museum, the mall during the day and a couple more restaurants within her first 6 weeks. She stayed in her carseat with the hood up, except when I BF'd her.

I'm comfortable with bringing a NB winter baby to places like that. It was good for me to get out and take in different scenery. I wouldn't run to a Gymboree class with a NB though, or eat at Chuck E. Cheese, but that's me.

DD was born 12/4. I took her to the mall the first time 1/17.

Hi brooke! I've been out with ds about 1-3 times a week since two weeks old. I was going out of my mind and I truly think it is better for both him and I to be out and about. We went to Home depot, target, out to lunch when the restaurant first opened etc. We've also been to my moms and ILs. Bundle him up and go!

I took DD out at 3 weeks to the mall. Just made sure she was covered withteh stroller cover. I couldnt stay in at all. I also went to my parents everyday.

DS was born right before christmas, at christmas he was at family's houses to celebrate with about 15-20 people.

But out to stores I would say it was about 2 weeks.

ETA: my ped was fine with it, she said take him to the supermarket, etc, just keep people from touching him and coming to close.

DS was in the lab at 6 days old but only for a few minutes... I had to fax a document....

since then, he showed up for the lab christmas party at 10 weeks, he went to a restaurant once, and he has been for 2 stroller walks... those are the only 'outings' as of almost 4 months. he has never been in a store.

My babies were out at 11 days old. I breastfeed so they had my immunity,we kept them in their carseats etc. They are now 9 weeks and doing great.
