Question on DH's SA
We have to deliver DH's SA on Friday morning to the lab. He is feeling uncomfortable about the whole thing but is being a good sport about it. My friend just told me about Semen Collection Condoms. Has anyone ever used these? DO you know where I could get them? I think this would make is so much easier on DH. And info would be appreciated.

They sell them online, I dont think they sell them instores, I have never seen them anyway.

maybe the lab can give them to you. check their instructions with the kit b/c they might not want you to collect it this way.

dh just did this last week. He was VERY VERY uncomfortable about it. They do say NOT TO USE ANYTHING!!! it can scew the results. I wouldn't trust the "condoms" Really he just needs to "suck it up". You don't want him to have to do it again b/c the results are off.
I "HELPED" DH Along (TMI) but only with my hand!! Saliva will scew the results as well.
he said it made it much easier b/c I helped him. Do that instead...jmo good luck

You should get a list of instructions with the cup. You cannot use anything. No condoms, no oral sex, nothing.
He also needs to wash up before hand, so tell him to shower. Do not open the cup until he is about to finish- it needs to stay sterile.

why cant men just suck it up??? i had to make all the calls to arrange it/get the lab info, go to the hospital and get the kit, help him do it, and then bring the sample to the lab while he waited in the car..LOL.
good lord, short of me actually putting the sample into the cup, i did this test myself...LOL.

Thank you ladies! I think this is going to be the way we go. We had all intentions on doing it this way and then my friend told me about these collection condoms and I just figured that it would be easier on DH.
Now my next question...how fast did you drive to the lab with the sample and if I get pulled over and show a cop the sample do you think they will let me off with a warning?

My DH is actually very good about it. He knows it needed to be done and just did it. I went with him to drop it off, but we usually had an appt. anyway.
He has had to do this 4 times.
2 SA, 1 IUI and the IVF.
For the IVF he had to be shown to the bathroom by the nurse, was handed a cup and had to do it in the bathroom at the office.
I was terrified he would have stage fright and not be able to produce a sample, but he did it- and fairly quickly!
My point is- they will suck it up and just do it if they want it bad enough.

How far from the lab do you live?
If you live more than 20-30 minutes away, you should have him produce the sample there.

He was fine about doing the test..LOL b/c if he can avoid me being poked and proded with invasive tests, he was all for it.
2nd time around i think hes going to go to the lab and just use their room since we had "transportation" issues the last time..LOL
its just funny how a prude he can be. He was supposed to call his dr. and ask for the referral..i said "ask your dr. for a script for a semen analysis." and he was like "i have to say semen analysis." LOLOL.

We are about 20 mins away. It's Sunrise Lab in Hauppague. They said that we needed to be there within an hour of producing the sample and that he had to do it at home. Oh now I am getting nervous!

My DH did 1x at home (for SA) - and he felt more comfortable doing it when I was not in the house.
The other times (IUI and IVF) he had to do it "on command" in the RE's office.
It's seriously the easiest thing. All he has to do is "pleasure himself" - and compared to what we have to do for fertility testing.. that's nothing!

I agree.
And 20 minutes is FINE. Just keep it in your pocket, under your shirt or between your legs to keep it warm. When you get there it will have kind of a watery consistency.

figured that would make ya giggle.
honestly i'm sure its more than anything gonna be a mental thing for him. i hope and pray that DH never has to do a SA - cause he would probably never be able to do it. He thinks 'pleasuring himself' is disgusting and "gay" and he NEVER EVER does it. I think he would just stare at the cup and say "well babe, kids would've been nice"
hopefully your DH can do the deed and get some testing done and handled! good luck to him on his date with Mary Palm and the 5 sisters!!!

we did use the special condom several times. It isn't a regualr condom it is a special one...we got ours from the RE office. You transport it the same way to the lab...in a sterile cup. As long as we were able to get it there within a half hour it was good.

Good luck with the SA. Hopefully, DH doesn't have to do a SA. He is already saying that he will do a SA but doesn't know how they are going to get the sperm out because he doesn't "pleasure himself".
So dumb questions. Can you just have sex and just pull out before or will that screw up the results? Oral sex would be the next best thing.

I think that's what these special condoms are for...can't do oral, saliva will change the sperm composition.

Am I the only one whose husband has no isue with doing it? I mean he felt pressured the one time he had to do it at home and me take it to the Lab but it wasnt a huge deal.
Im surprised some feel so weirdly about it....

My DH said that he hasn't done it in 3 years since there has been no need to. I told him it was like riding a bike and his response was the last time he rode a bike he broke his arm! I just hope we have no issues tomorrow. It has to be delivered between 10:30 am and Noon.

It's really annoying to me that these men "say" they "dont' do it anymore" Come on ladies.. do we really believe them.. even if they haven't done it in a while....all of a sudden they are embarrassed to do it.  My DH included..he was embarassed too. Just don't get it..
suck it up gentlemen!!! Pretend you are single again!!!!
To answer a pp questions.. you CAN NOT Have sex and pull out. It will scew the results. The instructions say by masturbation ONLY!!! Now that doesn't mean you can't HELP him along with your HAND ONLY!!!

I also find it funny when men say they don't masturbate. I have a very hard time believing that. And for the postr whose hubby thinks it's disgusting and gay??? Seems to be an underlying issue there...
