Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?

you think? why would someone embelish that? I think everyone has different circumstances. Some people have kids, some don't, some have 2 jobs, some don't, some have no consumer debt...etc
It's all relative. I save way less than 500/month but my dd is well taken care of, bills are paid and we live "pretty comfortably"
I agree - I don't see why anyone would lie ....... We all have different situations and bills and debt and standards of living and priorities etc etc. - Everyone is different and everyone views saving vs. spending very differently -
I could make the exact same amount as person B, but person B could save 95% of their salary, while I save 0 .....- KWIM ?

I don't think it's embellishment - it's just a fair representation of the varying distributions of wealth in this country. And, also, keep in mind, everyone's situation is different. Some live in less expensive areas, bought less expensive homes, have two incomes, have little debt, etc...

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
For me alone..I am in the savings of 500 and under range. Mostly because I am still paying off bills. I have almost nothing in savings after our wedding last month. The gifts we received from the wedding are in a seperate account.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
I honestly save nothing! I take out for my TRS but I was a single mom to 3 with a mortgage for 8 years. When I would get my STAR check or other "surprise" money I would save it until inevitably the brakes would go or something else. I drive an 02 Altima that is paid off, put my now DH through school and my children all have braces and play whatever sports they want. I put myself through school and increased my income by 50%. HOPEFULLY this year I can start saving, refi my ridiculous mortgage and pay off what is left of my debt.
So for those of you who feel less than financially secure: keep at it. It will work out in the end!

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
We don't save as much as we should. We are using whatever should be going to savings into paying off our debt. I hope to be cc debt free in three months and then I'm going to dump all of that into savings.

Oh, I didn't want anyone to feel bad because of the answers to this question! Everyone's situation is different. I know this same question was asked a while back and I can't find it. I was hoping to see the difference from then to now with the way the economy is.

You do have to keep in mind that this is the internet and anyone can put whatever they want. I'm sure there is some embellishing going on
eh.. i don't think theres embellishing. like other people said, its just representative of different situations. thats why in my post, i put the part about us catching a little "break" with our mortgage. we still pay almost $2000 a month, but the low interest rate FIL gave us helps a lot. it was most of the reason we decided to buy his parents house from them... its not our "ideal" house.. but its got plenty of room, and buying from his parents helps us to be able to save a little bit of money. we also don't have kids yet... and everybdy knows how that can add up. i'm sure the answer would be different if we had kids right now... no matter what, i think everbody is doing the best they can to do what they need to do

I'm the only one working right now. It's way less than 500 a month. More like 100 a month!
I used to think I made a pretty decent salary.. but seeing that everyone is able to sock away THOUSANDS a month in pure savings makes me realize I am poorer than I thought!
These types of posts make me feel the same way, although I've never had any delusions about my measly salary.
I don't make as much money per month as some people save.
Although, if you look at the poll answers only, 50% say that they save less that $500 a month.
Me too! I can barely make ends meet!

I agree- our take home pay doesn't equal what people save! I think that's unreal and wish I did whatever these people do for a living.
With that said- i think the majority of people save much less- and that people who save $200 a month aren't going to speak up as much as someone who saves in the thousands.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
with stbx moving out in august/september... with a looming divorce... with trying to keep my house... with finally, paying off all my consumer debt
i am very PROUD to say that i am saving $50/month!!
all extra money that will come my way will also go into the savings acct.
this does not include 401(k) money.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
Alittle less than $500. It's less than we'd like, but it's all we can do right now.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
When I had a job, i was still living paycheck to paycheck so I wasn't able to put much away.
My husband puts his entire paycheck into savings! Then he transfers over what he needs to pay bills etc. Very smart, I think!

More than $3000. We live well below our means now so that we will be in optimal financial shape later. Lets me sleep easy.

DH and I are just starting out, so I put away what we can afford. Right now it works out to about $150 a month.

It usually doesnt matter how much you make (although it helps!) it is how much you spend! DH and I live pretty frugally (if we want to spend over $200 on something we usually mull it over for weeks first, we are so cheap!) and the only reason we have cc debt is because of our house.

Unfortunately, no matter how you frugal you live though, you can't save more than you earn.
