Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
How much do you put into savings on average each month (only savings accounts - not including 401k, etc.)?

A little less than $500. We want to do more, but this is what we can afford for now.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
I couldnt answer any of those... Each month varies for us..sometimes I pull more in or less...so some months I do a big amt of 1k or more. Depends.
We def have a savings and will not let it go below a certain amt.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
Over $3k - We're kind of anal with our savings - We both max out of retirement funds @ work - the Life and Health Insurance is paid out of my salary - and then we bank my paycheck, and a part of DH's when we can
We still have a TON of work to do on our house, drive moest cars, etc and people kind of at us - but this is what we're comfortable with - The renovations will be done a little at a time - We're kind of 'BTDT' on the fancy car thing .....so it works for us -

We don't specifically set aside money. At the end of the month I just check to see how much we have in checking and if it's over a certain amount, I shift it over to savings or mutual funds. It varies each month...generally I'd say it's between $3k-$5k pe rmonth.

same here. Some months there is more to move over and some months there is less..or nothing depending on expenses.
Retirement accounts are always maxed though.
eta: the only part that is not us is the $3k-$5k part. It's much less usually.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
I put in $150 a month. When there is over $2000 in the savings I move $1000 to the MMA. The idea is to not touch the MMA and the SAV is there for emergencies.

Usually 4-5K a month. Plus we max out our retirement contributions at work.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
i save usually around $1000 a month in my personal account... DH maxes out his 401 K at work so thats a good amount thats getting saved.... plus i think DH also puts maybe $1000 into his regular savings account, too. we're lucky- we bought ILs house from them so we pay them our mortgage every month-- they gave us a good interest rate, and sold us the house for less than it was worth.. that helps us to be able to save some money each month...

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
I'm the only one working right now. It's way less than 500 a month. More like 100 a month!
I used to think I made a pretty decent salary.. but seeing that everyone is able to sock away THOUSANDS a month in pure savings makes me realize I am poorer than I thought!

Yeah I thought I was doing well with my $600/mo but now that I see others can save $5k a month... Great for them of course, but now I feel poor and underpaid.

These types of posts make me feel the same way, although I've never had any delusions about my measly salary.
I don't make as much money per month as some people save.
Although, if you look at the poll answers only, 50% say that they save less that $500 a month.

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
$300/pay period- so $600/month...
The last couple months DH has been in training for a promotion which was a bit of a paycut, so we havent been so good at keep all of the $$ in there- but once he graduates it will be back to normal (and hopefully more with his increase)
We have it set up with direct deposit- which makes it so much less tempting to touch!

when I wasn't working - we couldn't put much in (under $1000), but now that I'm working, we can put in much more (5K)...It's just the benefit of 2 people working.
I can't wait for daycare to be done...DH and I have a lot of plans for the $2K/month!

Yeah - even with both of us working it has NEVER been more than 1K per month! My husband is a journeyman so he makes a decent salary and I make more than him - but between mortgage, child care, food, utilities, insurance, medical, etc... the money is gone before you know it. I think it is FABULOUS that so many people are doing so well.. but I think I may need a new job!

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
what we make varies greatly by month
starting this month (Jan) we are going to be taking all extra money and splitting it between savings and pay down CC bills
my DH is only just getting back to work after about year of being hurt and not really able to work 100%

I'm one of those people, but keep in mind I don't have kiddies... kids are expensive! I'm SURE I won't be able to save that much once I've got 'em!

You do have to keep in mind that this is the internet and anyone can put whatever they want. I'm sure there is some embellishing going on

Re: Snowy day Q: How much do you put into savings each month?
you think? why would someone embelish that? I think everyone has different circumstances. Some people have kids, some don't, some have 2 jobs, some don't, some have no consumer debt...etc
It's all relative. I save way less than 500/month but my dd is well taken care of, bills are paid and we live "pretty comfortably"

eh.. I don't think there's too much embellishment. The more I think about it - I do have 2 children and I live in a town where the taxes are not too slight. And we are single income right now. And although I think I make a decent income - it certainly isn't breaking any tax brackets!
I'm psyched that people are doing so well though! Maybe there are some recession proof folks around here.
