How much snow is too much to go to work?
At what point do you determine that you aren't going to bother going into work in the morning?
For me, it's usually a few inches. Mainly, it's how well my road is plowed, but if we have 4 or 5 inches in the ground, I call in.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
If there's already a couple of inches I'll probably call out - I have a long commute w/out the snow and would have to leave like 3hrs early to battle through bad weather to make it to work on time
Not worth it for me

A foot or more is to much for me to go to work. I would want to leave early if there was half a foot on the ground.

Anything more than a dusting, DH drives me in but I always try to go in if the building is open. I hate to waste my hours LOL

6 inches plus. Where I work isn't very far from where I live, and I've been there in a blizzard.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
Depends - if I feel it is not safe I will not go in. It just isn't worth my safety.
That is usually around 4+ inches.

We live and work in the city, so rain, sleet or snow,no matter how bad...we go to work.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
When I worked and lived in the city, it took a blizzard of mythic proportions to keep me home. It was never so hard to get around. And there were a couple mythic blizzards that resulted in my place of work being closed.
But on LI driving, it's a different story. If you feel it's unsafe to drive in, then I would stay home.

Ditto this. Then I watch the LIRR website to see what they say during the day.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
I don't call out unless it is absolutely impossible for me to get in, I may arrive late but snow is a part of life in this area, so I figure out a way to deal with it.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
I've never called out because of snow - but I used to live in the city, work in the city. Now I live in Queens, work in Jersey, but I don't drive. Also, I would hate to lose a day because of snow - so as long as I can make it in, I will go to work.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
We'd probably have to have at least a foot in Chicago for me to call out. It's pretty much business as usually, nothing closes in the city for less than a foot.

If there is more than 4 inches in the forecast for where I live (north and west of the city), on one or more news channel, I usually telecommute so I don't have to deal with the messy weather.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
There would have to be a lot of snow, like I'm talking blizzard like conditions.
I've never stayed home b/c of the snow.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
If the trains are going, I'm going. I pretty much had to tiptoe down the hills today though to get to the train on time & then wait 20 minutes for it, but I came. I was already off on Friday, bur I probably would have come in.
If the trains aren't running, I would work from home.

It used to be if the trains are running, I'm in.
Now it depends on the school & sledding conditions.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
I dont know... I guess it all depends on if I can dig out of my house and if the LIRR is still running.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
Honestly, since I can work from home, if I know it's going to snow, I take my work and my computer home with me.
I live in an area that even with the smallest amount of inclement weather it's very difficult to drive (even in my SUV). My house is also up high on a very steep hill, as is my driveway! Plus the fact that I'm 8 months pregnant, I'm much too chicken to get behind the wheel of the car in bad weather.

Re: How much snow is too much to go to work?
it depends...if its just snow then it would have to be over 6 inches.....
if it's snow and ice and the roads are a mess....I'd turn back around and call in for the day.
