My Birth Story!!!
So my due date was March 5th. I was supposed to end work today-Feb. 10th. Some of you may remember I posted a week and 1/2 ago that I had lost my mucus plug. Most people said that they had their babies within 2 weeks of losing their plug, but I guess I was in denial. Then last Friday I had an appt with my OB. I had signs of bloody show the day before, but when they did the internal, I had no signs of dilation. She agreed that it looked like things were "progressing" but no mention of a baby the next day!
On Saturday I went to NJ and spent the day looking at bridesmaid dresses with my cousin. I was tired, but felt good. My husband went out that night with a friend - dinner, drinks, pool and I went to bed at around 11.
At 12:20, I woke up and thought I wet the bed!  My water had broke and it was POURING out of me. It was like a movie. I rushed to the bathroom with the phone in hand and called my doctor. The water would not stop. She said to get to the hospital right away. I asked her if I had an hour since my husband wasn't home and would be off the LIRR by 1:00. She said to leave as soon as he got there. So I called my sister hystericlaly crying and my brother-in-law got in the car right away. At 1:00 my husband got home...had no idea what was happening and my brother-in-law took us to the hospital.
I was admitted at Northsore Community @ 1:30 and my contractions started around 2:00. They were all over the place, 2 mins, 5 mins, 10 mins etc. It was crazy. At around 4 they started pitocin to get things regular and start things rolling. I was 2 cm dilated and 90% effaced. They gave me a pain reliever that didn't even TOUCH the pain.
All of a sudden I was resting and 5 residents and docs and nurses etc ran into the room and put oxygen on me and were trying to put in a baby monitor..it all happened so fast..They were yelling that my baby was in stress and that his heart rate was dropping. It was soooo scary and my husband was petrified. They eventually got him stabilized and the doc came in to tell me that there was no way she could keep giving me pitocin since everytime I contracted, the babies heart rate would drop. So she said I would have to have a csection. I was upset at first, but then once I got the epidural and I knew he was stable, my husband and I felt relief that he would be safe and out soon. The section itself was quick and easy, but the pain to follow has been tough. Also, because he is so early and small, he isn't taking to my breast. I am pumping and trying each feeding and then giving him the milk in a bottle. We will see how it goes!
I was really scared going early. My apt wasn't ready, but my husband and family have been here every day putting furniture together and washing clothes. I am lucky to have help.
I have to say, the staff at Northshore Manhasset were absolutely wonderful! Very attentive.
We named him Harrison Richard. My dads name is Richard. He is absoultely beautiful! My doctor said that he was wedged in my pelvis and that there really wasn't any room left in there, so he had some bruising, but he is so wonderful and sweet and I am in love.

COngrats on your beautiful baby boy! Try to feel better.. I know how tough the recovery is with the c-section.

this is so exciting - the first birth on liw since I foundout that I am pregant! congrats again! sounds like quite a sotry you will be able to tell Harrison when he gets older, too!

Congrats on Baby Harrison! He is adorable!
My son Andrew was born at 35.0 weeks and he too had a problem latching on. Then one day at 8 weeks old he finally got it, it was actually the week I was going to give up completely!
