I'm having a hormonal breakdown

So, you all know that I'm beyond anxious to have my little princess already...I'm not due for another few days, but I'm naturally the MOST impatient person in the world....I'm feeling no MAJOR symptoms, except for random BH's some more frequent BM's and I had a burst of energy the other day, but that could be attributed to a better night sleep....

I'm normally really really composed and very much in control and woke up with morning litearally in tears...We're having a nurse help us for two weeks, the first two weeks she's here, but my biggest thing is that DH who is getting his Executive MBA needs to leave for Ithaca on Jan 4th for a week, and there is no making up that weekChat Icon , he literally can't make it up, he's spoken to the dean and some other major players at the school and they would literally have to figure out a way for him to make it up at another school that instead of being an intensive week long study it would be the ENTIRE summer, at who knows what school!!?!!?!?!?? I know its stupid to have DH with me when the nurse is here, I don't need double the help, but I feel like I would feel more comfortable with him around...I just feel like I'll be ultra overwhelmed...my personality is that I want to do everything, and DH grounds me and I know he would tell me to chill while she's here...UGH..I'm sooo upset, I want this little Diva to be here already, and she's totally making a grand entrance a la Mom....Sorry to vent, I'm just soooo freaking emotional today!!!Chat Icon

Secondly, I can totally relate because I would be the SAME way. Your personality sounds very similar to mine.

Based on your post yesterday-- didn't Alex say that the breakdown was her sign that she was going into labor??? Chat Icon

Anyway, I think it's totally normal to feel the way you are feeling-- and you are more anxious to go early since your DH will be going away. Can you have your mom stay with you that week-- or someone else??Even at the very least to keep you company-- from my experience, baby nurses aren't the best conversationalists.

I think it's better that he get the week of training over with, especially if you don't know how he will be able to make up the program. It's not worth the trade off.

Wish I could offer more advice-- but, you will get through it! My friends have told me that having help is the most important thing-- and really helps to get through those first few weeks!

Re: I'm having a hormonal breakdown

OH that s*cks, just really bad timing...Chat Icon Thank god you have the nurse though that was really CLEVER to plan in advance. Of course you're emotional, you're only days or hours away from the biggest event in your life; think about it - for our weddings we had everything planned down to the millisecond, it was like a military operation!!!! And our bundles of joy are the total opposite, we worry about every single little thing, and can't really 'plan' any of it because THEY and/or your OB decide when they're coming!
But I will say, DH had a week at home with us, then went back to working really long hours; I was scared outta my mind to be alone with the nugget 18 hrs a day and you know what? It went FINE, better than FINE, it was great to bond with baby, figure out the BF'ing thing (which s*cked) and get a little rest.
Once she's here, that week will go faster than you can imagine, I promise you, and DH will be back before you know it! Its way better to get it over with now, DD will sleeeeep the week away; by summer, she'll be much more awake and active and he'd miss a LOT more!!!
Try to relax a little bit, everything will be FINE!!!!

Re: I'm having a hormonal breakdown

I think this could be a sign as well too that you are going soon!

I also keep having everyone tell me that if I have help around, I am just going to want to sleep as much as I can when I get home from the hospital.

DH is also planning to go back to work pretty soon after the baby. He'll be coming home at night, which is different from your situation, but I am not really planning to have him around much. I think my mom and his mom are going to be a bigger help in the very beginning. I hope I don't sound like a negative Nelly!

Re: I'm having a hormonal breakdown

Thanks ladies!!! My mom offered to come and stay that week, but my mom as much as I love her and as beyond close to her I am, I know will make me more nervous, I'm the more rational one out of the both of us...DH is also planning on staying home for two weeks with the baby regardless either a week before or and then after school etc...however it works out...
It's def the feeling of being out of control..the wedding analogy is perfect! I'm a total control freak as well, and I know I need to throw all this stuff out the window once the baby comes, its just beyond FRUSTRATING right now...
I def agree that I want DH going this week, and I feel sooo badly acting this way, bc DH feels so guilty as it is..and I dont' want to add to his guilt, I know friends and family will come and visit that week, but still DH is really the only one that can ground me and the one that I can have a yelling fit at and he gets why...Ugh, I hope this is a sign of something...I'm going to try to walk the dog like 30 times today and see if it moves things along...

I agree - You're not crazy, I would be exactly the same way - I'm also a control freak and DH keeps my in check, so for as independent as I am normally, I'd probably be freaking as well if DH had to be away for a week right after I delivered -

Just keep telling yourself it's only ONE week out of a LIFETIME with the baby - I'm sure in your head, you know you will be just fine - You are 100% capable of handling this with or w/o DH thee for the week .........Would things be EASIER with him? Sure, but that doesn't mean you can't handle the challenge. - Once your hormones go back to normal and you start to feel more like youirself, I'm sure you'll feel better about the situation Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thanks, I know I can handle it, I'm just insanely hormonal right now, and honestly I know DH would probably just annoy me with little things anyway LOL, but knowing he's there to annoy me keeps me comfort...LOLChat Icon

Re: I'm having a hormonal breakdown

I can totally relate. I had my breakdown on Tuesday night. I really just can't take being pregnant anymore...

I had contractions for 13 hours last night into this morning. I was so hoping that it was the start of something--but it never got worse. I have read a million birth stories, searched the internet for answers...nothing!

My countdown says 5 days 10 hours and that seems like forever...my biggest fear is that i will go late...my sister said she thought i was going to give birth on the 27th and I almost cried!

I am keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

Re: I'm having a hormonal breakdown

Awww.... Hang in there- those last few days are torture- you are so worried and filled with anxiety. Don't be surprised if you still feel this way a few weeks after the baby is born too- as a control freak myself, I didn't get PPD but I got major anxiety. Every night when the sun went down, I was in terror of what lay ahead.

Good job on having the nurse for two weeks- that is going to be major. If it makes you feel any better my DH just made me feel worse- he was so much better with the new baby since he wasn't dealing with recovery and hormones that I got very jealous and resentful of him. Having someone neutral may be better. Chat Icon
