I would just say something like "OK, thanks for your advice," and then ignore them. People like that won't stop no matter what you tell them. Maybe if she thinks she got "through to you" she will lay off.

welcome to motherhood - EVERYONE has an opinion about absolutely EVERYTHING that you do and will have NO qualms about expressing that opinion (usually in as rude a way as possible).
i would say something like, "with all due respect, i've already made a decision about this issue and i don't feel the need to discuss it with you or anyone else".
your decisions shouldn't be up for debate. end of story.

I tried for about a week, and I did want to BF, but I found the whole experience so stressful that I stopped. I got a few comments afterwards, but by that time the window for breastfeeding had already closed, so I would just cut them off with "Well, too late now, that ship has sailed...."
I am the last in my family and of my friends to have a baby and people were laughing at me when I told them no blankets or toys in the crib until a year.

My response would just be (and was)..."it's a very personal decision and I will cross that bridge when the time comes". I really don't understand why even strangers think they can ask this question

I love all of these responces, they are great advice.....BUT WHY DO WE EVEN HAVE TO EXPLAIN OURSELVES
I hate the fact that everyone seems to know whats best for us....like we needed them to tell us how to even get here....DH & I made this baby...DH & I can raise this baby with out your help...thanks but no thanks!!!!!
ETA: I guess the hormones have started...

thank you all so much i love each and every persons response and they all sound like something i would say!! and WILL USE!!! and i can completely see where your all coming from with the it gets worse once the baby comes!! and how i HATE that i need to explain myself! im not a child i dont need to explain anything i do!!!

Wait--you're a NURSE, and someone's telling you about care for your baby????
I'd say "Why do you care so much," and when he starts telling you how you're harming your baby, say "You know, as a nurse, I see all kinds of problems with decisions people make all the time--including you--but I think it's really rude and intrusive to share them."
