Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I really hope I can hold out that long to do so, I am a cook and don't get breaks and on my feet the whole shift. I hope my body can stand the stress up until that point.

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I pretty much did...

With my 1st- he was due 10/22. I had about 2 weeks of vacation time that had to be used before I went out on leave... So I had "planned" to take vacation 2 weeks before my EDD. If baby wasnt born, Id return to work...if he was- well then my leave would start after my time ended.

WELL.... I went to work Monday 9/26, and worked Tue 9/27- that night ended up having an amnio and had to stay off my feet for 24 hrs... (No work for me on Wed.) I stayed home on Thursday "just to be sure" and thats when I got the call that DS would be born on Friday.

So I technically worked up until the end...

With this baby- Its looking like my c-section will be 5/29. Im hoping to work until the 22nd and not return after memorial day weekend (so id give myself 3-4 days to relax and hang out with my son)

But we will see..

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I did. I worked until the Friday after Thanksgiving and I went into labor on Sunday and gave birth on Monday. I would have gone crazy sitting home. It also helped that the hospital that I delivered at is right next door to where I work. Chat Icon

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

i was on bedrest from 29-36 weeks, and then i went back to work.

i went to work on thursday (39 weeks, 3 days) and was having light contractions all day - but no different from the constant contractions that i was having which put me on bedrest... so i didn't think anything of it...

got home from work at 7:30pm. went to sleep at 10. woke up at 2:30am to bloody show. had my first active labor contraction at 3:07am.

so i actually did work up until the very day i gave birth...

I did. I was due on 4/28. I worked on 4/22, went home and went to sleep (I work nights) and my water broke 3 hours later, while I was sleeping. I felt a POP and jumped out of bed, as I knew what it was.

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I'm a teacher, and I worked right INTO labor! I went into work cramping (not knowing I was in pre-labor) on a Friday, and went into full blown labor early the next morning!

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I did. I went to work, left at 2 to go to my 38 wk appt (which was really at 39 weeks as it had been rescheduled) and found out I was in labor! :) Did not make it back to the office that day and had my DS a little after midnight.

I think they are expecting the same thing this time around...:)

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I almost did! I was due April 22nd, so I was still working in march when I went for my 35 week appt. I worked Friday (3/23) and had off on Monday (3/26) for a dr. appt. i went to the appt and found out I had the starts of preeclampisa. I was put on bedrest and ended up having DS that Thursday - I was totally not expecting to have him almost a month early! And I don't think my job was prepared for it either! When i called my boss he sort of panicked!! lol

I plan on doing this. A friend of mine recently did this as well. she worked up until the day before her c section

I did the same - I was sending emails out until 12am the night before my scheduled c-section.

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

I had planned to take the week I was due off - but Sydney had other plans. She came on the day that was supposed to be my last day before maternity leave. My water broke when I got home from work on Thursday and she was born Friday.

I did, and I was fine. I worked on a Friday, went into labor that evening while I was sleeping.

I knew myself and I knew if I stayed at home I'd drive myself crazy. I was uncomfortable, of course, but it wasn't beyond reason.

I am the same way & I planned to work to the end with DS #1. I was put on bed rest b/c of a stubborn placenta, but I do not have that issue this time and I plan to work until the end.

I did this. I worked on Wednesday, had a Dr's appoint wednesday night where they sent me to the hospital, where I was admitted and had had DD 3 days later.

Yes, I did. I worked until my scheduled c-section. Actually I work until 1 day before. I was not feeling well the day before and took that day off. I wanted all 12 weeks afterwards.

Re: Has anyone actually worked up until they gave birth

i'll probably be doing that since i don't really have another option though i am worried considering i'm a teacher and on my feet all day plus constantly running up and down 4 flights of stairs to pick up/drop the kids off at classes and go to meetings. not to metion grad classes in manhattan 2 (maybe 3) nights a week Chat Icon i will allow myself the luxury of taking the bus in those last few weeks/months instead of walking my usual 1.5 miles each way though.

i figure if i'm too uncomfortable i'll call in sick. i have 9 or 10 days left so far. not much but hopefully it'll be enough...

ETA - I was going to an internal before work, discovered I had low fluid, and was induced that day!
