Anyone skip the glucose test?

Is it really necessary to take the glucose test? Did anyone skip it?

I pee on those glucose sticks at every appointment and I'm told I'm in the healthy range every time.

My nausea has been getting worse and I feel I will just end up puking the liquid anyways.

I would not skip it. It's an important test. GD is not something you should mess around with.

You are getting yourslef all worked up! Calm down and relax.

It tastes like hawiian punch. Its about the amount of a can of soda. It is NOT BAD AT ALL. Its not even that sweet. They check for protein when you pee each visit. This is more detailed. It is not bad. Dont stress it from now.

you don't have to take time off from work, just schedule it for first thing in the morning. I drank the juice at home, an hour before my appointment per the instructions I was given. Went to the office, and since it's a very controlled timed test, you do not have to wait, because they need to draw your blood exactly one hour after you finish the drink. They had me pee in a cup, drew my blood and I was on my way... 5 minutes in and out.

This test is really for the health of your baby, and should not be skipped.

I would NOT skip it!! If you develop GD, as I did, you need to know so you and your baby don't have any complications. FYI - I felt fine, had NO symptoms of GD, never knew there was anything wrong and when I had my glucose test I was SHOCKED to see how high my # was. I ended up on insulin shots for the last 11 weeks of my pregnancy and I was closely monitored by my OB and an endocrinologist. It would not be wise to skip the test, letting GD (if you have it) go undiagnosed can be problematic.

To risk your health is foolish. Cant you just go in late, or leave early. The whole thing is about 1 1/2 total. They have between certain times for a reason. If your job fires you or lays you off because off a dr appt, they will have big issues on their hands. JMO

Your employer cannot punish you for taking time for medical reasons. If you have sick time coming to you use that, if not you are still covered under FMLA for 12 weeks medical leave - the time does not have to be consecutive.

Don't stress over the test, it really isn't that bad. Remember the health of your child is the most important thing here.

You can ask you DR. if waiting until 29 weeks is OK, I don't know if there is any issue with that.

Most practitioners won't let you skip it.

I think I suggested to you before that you ask your OB to test you using the American Diabetes Associations method of testing doing a post-parandial stick,

You basically eat a meal consisting of 100 g of carbs and some protein and they take your bloos 2 hours later. I did it on Monday, I had french toast with maple syrup, scrambled eggs and juice for Lunch and they took my blood 2 hours later.

Seriously talk to your OB about it if you are that concerned.

ETA: I did my test at 29 weeks

The drink is not gross at all. It's smaller than the amount in a can of soda. I had the orange and the cola flavored. They taste like flat soda.

Honestly the test really isn't that bad. Mine was lime flavored and it tasted like flat sprite to me....I didn't have a problem drinking it all. Also the one hour test really isn't too much liquid to drink and you have 5 minutes to drink it. I would def get the test, it's very important.

I didnt think the test was bad at all. I actually enjoyed the taste of the drink- so did the baby, he kicked for a while after that from the sugar rush!

I have been putting off the 3hr GTT because I did think the 1hr was that bad!! The drink was awful. Sorry but JMO. It took me forever to drink it and I almost got very sick.

I am waiting for a call back from my OB on what I can do other then the 3hr.

My sister never had to have this test done neither did my SIL. They did some other alternative way.

i have thrown up the drink 3 seperate times in the lab...but im also a post gastric bypass patient so i cant tolerate some things normal people can...i do want to say though, that you should at least attempt it..if you cant get through it, what my dr did was treat me "as if" i had it..until i could prove i didnt..i went to a nutritional counselor, got the diabetic self tester to test my blood 4 times a day..and followed a diet i was already following anyway since im a super healthy eater now as it is...after 2 weeks of seeing very LOW blood sugar, everyone agreed there was no way i had GD, and i stopped testing..its very important for the baby if you have it that you know about it..it could affect his/her lung maturity, the size of her shoulders and whether he/she will be able to be delivered vaginally..and other things...try and take it..or just go straight to the source like i did

I would not skip it. There are risks to the baby if your sugars are noit controlled with diet or if you need insulin.
The baby’s body is larger than normal—called macrosomia. A large baby may need to be delivered by a surgical procedure called cesarean section, instead of naturally through the vagina.
The baby’s blood sugar is too low—called hypoglycemia. Starting to breastfeed right away can help get more glucose to the baby. The baby may also need to get glucose through a tube into his or her blood.
The baby’s skin turns yellowish and the whites of the eyes may change color—called jaundice. This condition is easily treated and is not serious if treated.
The baby may have trouble breathing and need oxygen or other help—called Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
The baby may have low mineral levels in the blood. This problem can causes muscle twitching or cramping, but can be treated by giving the baby extra minerals.
I had to have a neonatal in my room right after delivery to make sure my son was OK.

The orange drink tasted like Sunkist soda.
I failed by alot, took the 3 hour and failed also. I went on a meal plan, tested my blood a few times a day and my son was 5 days late and came out average size and healthy. I would not chance it in case you do have it.

I know they say that the high glucose drink is not a true picture of a normal person consuming that much sugar. You would be surprised of how many carbs you actually eat in a meal.
