A drunk driver takes yet another life

My husband knew this family growing up. I am heartbroken for this family. It's just not fair and someone has to put a stop to it.

The driver has a previous drunk driving conviction - when the hell will people learn???

Re: A drunk driver takes yet another life

i saw this story yesteray. it just breaks my heart how people with PREVIOUS DWI/DUI convictions don't even stop to think twice about driving while under the influence!

i really think the problem is that the punishments for DWI and DUI convictions are just not severe enough. SOMETHING has to give. how many more people will die because these azzholes are still on the road??

So sad.

When are they going to make the punishments harsher so that they really are a deterrent. What they are doing now clearly isn't working. Chat Icon

I pray every single night that by the time our kids drive they will have much stronger laws against drunk driving. I can barely sleep at night thinking about it now - I don't know that I will survive his teenage years. And, I'm not worried about him - but the other crazies on the road.

Something has to be done - end of story - it's so common on LI and I feel as if it's getting so much worse - not better at all.

I saw this yesterday and realized I went to high school with one of his sisters. She was a grade above me. I feel so bad for them. This has got to stop and better laws made. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was listening to this call on DHs scanner. It is so sad. This is the second drunk driving accident at that spot this month. I live right down the block. It sickens me.

I just want to know when people are going to smarten up and realize that you CANNOT drink and drive. No, you can't handle it, no you are not different, no, YOU ARE NOT IN CONTROL.

Sorry, touchy subject for me.

I could not agree more. I really wish that there were some better way to stop the DWIs. Chat Icon

Re: A drunk driver takes yet another life

From the article:
"In June 2006, Esquivel pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated, state records show. He was sentenced on Sept. 15, 2006, to 30 days in jail, a $500 fine and three years' probation." Um, is it me or is this a slap on the wrist? What happened to zero tolerance & taking your car?

Of course they don't think twice. He received a $500 fine and probation. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I doubt the driver even thought of his previous conviction more than once after his probation was over.

This is so sad!

I think it's time for tougher laws such as zero alcohol tolerance. Jail for DWI/DUI.

Re: A drunk driver takes yet another life

He was my friend Chat Icon I knew all of the men in the car. It's so awful. I cannot believe this happened to someone so young & undeserving. He was such a nice person & he is going to be missed by so many people. It makes me so angry because it's just so unfair. I never have & never will understand how someone could think it's okay to get behind the wheel after drinking like that. Is it worth it to kill someone so that you don't have to call a cab?
