Wood "deck" steps freezing?
We live on the second floor over a garage and the stairs to get to our apartment are wood, like deck steps.
This morning I went outside and apparently they were still damp from the rain yesterday and frosted over. I almost fell.
Any suggestions on how to care for the steps (and prevent falls) in the upcoming cold-wet-freezing winter????
TIA

Yes. Tell your landlord that you almost fell and will sue their @sses off if they don't prevent the steps from freezing! ![Chat Icon](c/19.gif)
Seriously though, it should be their responsibility and expense, it is their property.
We have rubber decorative mats on our front stoop that we got from BB&B. The steps can still freeze underneath so you still need to take careful steps. But I know they sold ones that were heated too.

I have the same problem in front of my house and actually fell last year . My DH now makes sure he puts salt and sand down all the time.

Re: Wood "deck" steps freezing?
We have wood decks on both the front and back of the house and have learned to keep a little container of the shakeable ice melt by the front door. I have fallen numerous times...there's no way to prevent it besides the ice melt and it forms in rain, snow and severe frosts.... BTW, if you have a blacktop walk or driveway - same situation...

Re: Wood "deck" steps freezing?
We just got a new classroom unit at school w/ wood deck/steps. This same thing happened to me last week. I'm going to tell them they need to put down plastic treads.
