Ugh, my ankles are swollen

I am only 20w2d, and my ankles are swollen Chat Icon Add to that, the back pain and the "heavy stomach" feeling I have today, and I'm in great shape! We are in the process of moving, and I guess I'm just doing too much. Plus, I'm a teacher and am on my feet most of the day. Besides the obvious (staying off my feet), what else can I do to help?

If they're really swollen, try to stay off your feet. Drink a lot of water and limit your salt intake. Keep your feet elevated and at night, try to keep them elevated above your heart. Wear comfortable shoes. I've also used ice packs at night, which help.

This is good advice. My swollen ankles set in around 18 weeks. I elevate above my heart at night, and that helps. Watch the salt for sure - canned soups, processed foods, dining out, etc. My Dr has prescribed compression tights for me, which I hate, but they may help too.

Drink a lot of water and try to stay away from salt.

Is it possible for you to sit a bit more throughout the day while teaching?

Re: Ugh, my ankles are swollen

I was swollen the last few weeks of teaching. I ended up sitting more while I taught and put my feet up on a chair. Not the best thing, but I had to do something about my swollen feet!
