am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

i dunno, i just feel like i dont want her to get accustomed to sleeping in a place she wont be in long term...and i dont have very far to walk to get her at nite in her room,,and with a 10 year old son, i just feel like my poor dh and i already barely have any time alone and privacy together...

i dunno...is this a mistake ya think??

It's what you're comfortable with. For me I'd sleep less with the baby in another room right away but plenty of people put the baby straight into the crib.

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

you are not crazy
everyone is different and has their reasons

i do NOT want the baby in our room
I want him to start out in his crib ASAP

right now, his room isnt ready so that may or may not happen - not sure yet

other people want the baby with them for BF reasons or otherwise

its your preference

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

Both our DC went into a full-size crib in their own rooms from day 1. For us, it was easier. One less transition, hopefully one of us could get some sleep at a time, we don't have a whole lot of room in our bedroom for a bassinet and related equipment, etc.

Whatever works for you will work just fine for DC.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Not a mistake. Their are alot of moms/dads who put their child straight into crib. It all depends on what your comfortable with and what works best for you. Im Bfing so I had dd in cosleeper, and this pregnancy since having a toddler and the two will share a room, this baby will also go in cosleeper for that reason and bfing.

Tho remember once you get baby home you may change your mind. Before dd came i had all intentions of putting in crib right away, then when i saw her things changed.

still their are moms on parenting who said they EBF and still put straight in crib. As long as you have somewhere to sit to bfed youll be fine.

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

i don't want to use one either. We only have one bedroom and the crib will be like 5 steps, if that from my bed. My mom is insisting on buying me the arm's reach co-sleeper. But honestly I will not be able to fit the furniture we have. Is there something so wrong with putting the baby right in the crib? ETA.. I will be BF too. But I figured the baby will still in the room with us.

We borrowed one and DS ended up hating it so we stopped after one night. They really aren't necessary if you don't want one.

I am going to BF and we will not be using a bassinet, origianlly I had planned on using the cradle my great-grandfather made, but it just isn't going to fit in our bedroom. The nursery is about 10 feet from my bed, so although it may be a pain to get out of bed to feed the baby at night, I'm not very worried about it.

No you are not crazy! DD went to a crib our first day home from the hospital. She did great and it was one less transition for us.

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

I was not planning on getting one, but a friend was going to lend me her's.

I think I don't want to take it now for a multitude of reasons, but in reality after thinking about it more, I don't think we need it.

I am planning on breastfeeding as well, but I will have to get out of bed regardless, so what's the difference. It's not like the baby's room is that far away.

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

First, I want to say that I don't think that there is a right or wrong answer to this. I am sure that you will find plenty of people who did both and were very happy with their decisions.

With DD, we had her in the room with us - we got an extra PNP for grandmas and just used that in our bedroom with the bassinet portion and then brought it to grandmas afterward. My DD had acid reflux and twice in the middle of the night stopped breathing. The ONLY way that I knew something was wrong was that she was thrashing around next to me and it woke me up - I truly believe that I would not have noticed that through the monitor (especially being a sleep deprived new mom).

The gastro said that it was happening to prevent the stomach acid from going into her lungs (a natural reaction) and that it would have worked itself out on it's own, but I guess I will never know.

Obviously, most babies don't go through something like this and you truly have to do what you feel comfortable with Chat Icon

Re: am i crazy not to use a bassinet?

I'm not getting a bassinet. -
I will either put the baby right into the crib (We would be able to see her crib from our bed, that's how close the rooms are) OR, if I decide I would be more comfortable w/ her IN the room, I'll put her in the pack and play -

I honestly don't know how I"m going to feel about it - NOW, I say, 'oh it's fine to put her right into her own crib and room' ........who knows how paraniod I'll be then -
