Re: While you are in the hospital
Not take a SHOWER for 4 DAYS ???? Sorry, not an option for me .........after 24 hours of not showering I'd stand in the middle of the hallway and let them hose me down - I'd feel so disgusting !!!
But I'm also at minimum a 2 shower a day person -

Re: While you are in the hospital
I brought Clorox Wipes and Lysol with my to the hospital. My mom was with me when I was allowed to shower (I had to wait since I had a c-section).
My mom cloroxed everything and lysoled everything. I wore flip flops, showered for over a 1/2 hour and used a great smelling shower gel. I felt like a new person afterwards.
Bring clorox & lysol and have someone wipe down and spray everything before you use them (toilet, shower, sink, floor) ...

That being said, I am also the queen of Lysol and will be throwing some serious disinfectant on that shower floor and rinsign it off before I step in there w/ my $2 flip flops !!
ETA: - For those who think it's digusting to share a shower (Other than the bleeding issue) did you go away to college ??

Re: While you are in the hospital
I had a private room BUT had to share a bathroom with 2 others in the room on the other side. So regardless, the bathroom needed to be clorox wiped and lysoled every time I used it.

Re: While you are in the hospital
Showering after having DD was the ONLY thing that made me feel human again. I had to share a room, and there was no shower in our bathroom- the showers at St. Catherine's are separate down the hallway.
No, it's not a 5 star hotel- but you seriously should just bring flip flops and deal with it. Not showering for 4 days after giving birth

No I personally did not but I did share a room in a house for a summer with a group of people. I did wear flip flops in the shower BUT....even though women get monthly periods that would be an issue in college showers, I still don't think that equates to the amt of blood that would be in an OB delivery ward shower stall. And the fact that when you are in pain, you may have a sort of half open wound (episotomy for ex), physically weak, and on pain meds that may leave you not in the right frame of mind to think before you act, you would have more of a possibility of being exposed to a virus passed through blood due to these situations over simply showering in a health club or a college dorm. So I don't think the two compare at all.

Re: While you are in the hospital
It wasn't bad, but I did wear a pair of cheapo flip flops and didn't touch a thing......I grew up doing a lot of camping though so I am use to public showers.

If I have to go to prison, I think I have bigger problems than a dirty shower that's for sure.
ETA - Actually hospitals are one of the major places people can contract bacterias and infections (for ex, MRSA) so I personally don't see a hospital shower stall as a hygenic place. I think the way some of the hospitals pack in 4 pg bleeding women to a room is simply disgusting and unsanitary IMO.

I thought I made it pretty clear I understood where you are coming from (and agree) re: the blood. You were the only person to point that out as to why you felt strongly about it - Everyone else just said it was gross to 'share a bathroom' ......... I understand what you're saying, but I still could not skip a shower for 4 DAYS .......THAT to me, is disgusting.

how does a post about really being skeeved by something turn to a comment like this? i think its great some of you have no issues with germs....but some of these comments were a bit harsh or ridiculous. i know this is a public forum, but there is a difference between giving helpful advice over something someone is upset about and making dumb statements. sorry.

I was just answering your ? about sharing dorm rooms.
I could care less if others feel taking a shower is more important. Not trying to convince anyone, that's for sure. Doesn't affect me at all if others aren't disturbed by it. I just really can relate to the OPs concerns and just stating my POV. Just as you guys are grossed out by the thought of not showering, some would be equally grossed out by the thought of sharing a possibly not disinfected shower, that's all.

Understood re: your POV and I respect that. But I wasn't comparing sharing a dorm shower to sharing a hospital shower that someone had BLED all over .....(which was your major health concern and I understand that)
I was comparing it to those people who said they just thought the idea of sharing a shower AT ALL was gross. -

Oh...I don't see sharing a shower as gross overall. You gotta do what you gotta do and flip flops generally would ease my mind. It's sharing a shower that multiple unknown people are bleeding in, that's where I freak out.

Re: While you are in the hospital
Having just given birth- I can say that while there was definitely bleeding going on- the shower was not a bloodbath as some people have implied. In fact- I didn't see any blood after I was done showering at all. Now- the toilet was another story during the first day...... But I always cleaned up afterwards.
That said, I would probably bring my own Lysol to spray down the shower/toilet before using it. There is NO WAY I could have gone more than a day without a shower- it was what made me feel human again!
Thank goodness we do private rooms in Maryland......

Something about standing in a shower that someone else was just bleeding in upsets me, b/c some kinds of viruses don't die just b/c water was running in that shower. Do they disinfect the shower after each person's use? I would need to be sure of this otherwise it seems like a health hazard. That would be a large concern of mine.
Why don't you jump in right after they clean the room? Then spray down with lysol and wear flip flops and you will be fine. You have to shower- you will be so grossed out

Re: While you are in the hospital
granted i had a private room and shower (they are all private in south nassau), but i couldn't imagine not showering after giving birth! i gave birth at 4:30 am and was in the shower at 9am. it was the first thing i asked for. i felt so much better--i even dried and did my hair.
just wear flip flops and you'll be fine. and when it comes to blood---there wasn't any in the shower. the towels were another story

This is exactly what I did every morning at 6am. I got up and the bathroom still smelled like cleaner. I then sprayed my Lysol, waited to let it work and hopped in with flops on.

Since I never had a baby yet, if I could do this, damn skippy I would asap. But thanks to ladies suggestions on here, I will be bringing cleaner and my DH will wear gloves and clean for me, if I have to share a bathroom/room.

Re: While you are in the hospital
I NEED to shower every day, so there is no question that I will be doing so after delivering.
I have never stayed in a hospital before, so I am not looking forward to this, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.
Thanks for the cleaning supplies rec, I will definitely be packing some of those.
I just hope those couple of days go fast.

Re: While you are in the hospital
I can't fathom not showering. You are going to be sweaty and bloody. I know you are given pads. Just thinking about it is making me want to shower.
Plus it isn't like you will be sharing a shower stall with someone else.

Re: While you are in the hospital
Luckily the hospital I will be delivering at only has private rooms for birthing (you labor, deliver and recover in the same room, unless you are having a C-Section, but still private rooms for recovery). I really thought all hospitals were set up this way
I will be showering, I have heard that not only will it make you feel 1000% better afterwards, it is great for during labor to help ease the contractions - so I may be in the shower before delivery as well.
