Bumper or no Bumper?

It's seems bumpers are not the safest, and I'm considering not using one. In fact, I'm thinking of not even getting a complete bedding set since the comforter and bumpers seem to be a waste. Especially since the baby is going in our room and I don't have a separate nursery. I love the look of the Bumper, but I'm not sure what to do. THanks!!!

I swear, baby bedding is giving me a headache!!

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

it is really what you feel comfortable with. We kept DD's bumpers in until she was 6 months old and started rolling over. Now we have the breathable ones it.

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

i knew after the risk i wasnt using regular bumpers. I thought i needed a comforter, but i was just googling and saw they are suppose to be kept out of the crib......

im just going to get fitted sheet, crib skirt and breathable mesh bumpers(to keep the limbs in the crib)

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

im having a crib skirt, comforter, pillows and window valance made by someone local (who is amazing btw, please FM me for her info if you are interested)
i wont be keeping the comforter or the pillows in the crib when dd is sleeping, but i do like the way it looks..and they are easy to take out, instead of paying a ton of money for a whole set i wont use..
Im gonna use breathable mesh bumpers though too..
this lady makes everything custom, and is VERY affordable..so i was excited to be able to just get what i needed

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

My friends and I have talked about this... It seems in the beginning you can keep it on (or at least my friends did) because they don't move around. Once their baby started rolling or moving as it got older they took it out. But then some chose to put it back ON when guests came over, etc. to make the room look put together.

i didn't use bumpers for ds. his leg got briefly stuck between the slats one time, but otherwise we had no issues.

this time around i will likely go with the breathable bumpers.

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

I love the look of the bumper too, but I was stressing out about it too much. We decided to just get a crib skirt and crib sheets. Like you said... the sets include a lot of stuff that I felt would be a waste.

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

For me, the bumper was a necessity, DS was and still is a very active sleeper. I do feel the comforter was a big waste of money. If I am blessed with another child I will not get a comforter and will still use a bumper.

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

We ordered a custom set with a bumper- we will use it until DD starts moving around a lot and then we will put the mesh bumper on-

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

ok I am officially confused---- many people have been telling me bumpers when they are older are ok because when they can roll aound, they are able to move if they start suffocating on the bumper or other fabric.

Things seemed so much simpler when we were kids Chat Icon

Re: Bumper or no Bumper?

we decided not to get a set. We got the valances, the lamp, and some of the other accessories, and will probably get the breathable bumpers.

DS is almost 19 months old and we never took the bumpers out. He even had bumpers in his bassinet.
