Re: Being checked for dilation
You are not the only one. I saw stars at the first one. Dh swears she was up to her elbow inside!
The second one wasn't AS bad but only because I had it right after the test they gave me to check for amniotic fluid using the largest speculum I have ever seen - def not meant for a human! I nearly blacked out.
Last week I saw a different partner and before he came in I couldn't keep my eyes off the size XL gloves on the table. My regular doc is a petite lil thing and wears an XS so I was freaking out to say the least. He didn't hurt me at all!! Def think it depends on doc, babys position and amt of dilation.

Re: Being checked for dilation
I've been checked several times in the past week, and although it is uncomfortable, I didn't find it painful. Maybe it gets worse as you get further along?

Re: Being checked for dilation
The exam itself didn't hurt that bad but when the doctor tries to dialate your cervix or strips the membrane, THAT hurts like a mofo.

Re: Being checked for dilation
I have an appointment next week. I'll be almost 36 weeks. I'm not sure if I'll have an internal at that appointment. Either way, I'm not looking forward to that.

Re: Being checked for dilation
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare anyone!!!
I think I'm just "overly sensitive" when it comes to that area--it just felt like she went in wayyyyyy too far and it definitely pinched. I guess I wasn't expecting it!
They also made me do the Strep B test, even though I'm having a scheduled c-section, so I guess it was a double whammy.

Re: Being checked for dilation
to the ladies that asked - the doctor will shove his/her hand up your va-jay-jay and try to reach your cervix to see if you are dilated at all
it hurts b/c during pregnancy your cervix is pretty much at it's highest point and hard to reach - but the pain is quick and for me it stopped hurting as soon as my dr took her hand out.

Re: Being checked for dilation
it definitely stopped hurting as soon as the Dr. took his/her hand out (i have 2 drs that are married to each other)
also, in comparison to the cramping pain I am in with this SPD; it was no much more bearable
