1 hour GTT -- preparation?
I was told that I would be getting my 1 hour test on Tuesday at my 24 week appt., but I read online that you need to fast for 8-14 hours. Shouldn't they have scheduled this for first thing in the am? I have it at 3:30 after working a full day -- no way that I can fast!

That makes no sense. Sounds like they messed up. Call your doctor and see if you can reschedule/come in first thing that day.

Re: 1 hour GTT -- preparation?
I just had my 1 hour test (I was given a script to go to the lab for it) BUT my doc told me that its not necessary to fast for the 1 hr, however it'll give a more accurate reading so I chose to fast.

My doctor told me it wasn't necessary to fast for the 1 hour test...but if you fail that one, you will need to fast for the 3 hour test.

Yes. This is true.
The whole point of the 1 hour test is to see how your body reacts and if you fast, you don't see that.
ETA: When when I took the 3 hour test I only had to fast from midnight the night before to the test at 7am!

Then I guess it is okay to take after a full day of eating. Should I watch my carb/ sugar intake though?

Re: 1 hour GTT -- preparation?
I think every doc has a different procedure as to how to prep. I didn't have to fast for mine...
Obviously, I would try to not eat a lot of sugar the day before or day of your test. But, the best thing to do is eat as normal as possible to get a true result.

My doctor said I didn't have to fast, but I shouldn't eat or drink anything too sugary 2 or 3 hours before the test. I ended up fasting b/c the lab required it, but I also took the test in the morning. If you're taking the test in the afternoon, just try to stay away from a lot of carbs/sugar after breakfast.
