exercise and pregnancy

Is anyone still actively exercising? I was taking a pretty intense kickboxing class but decided to call my dr's office to see if it's still ok to take. I'm about 4 weeks pregnant. The nurse said she wouldn't take the class- that it is ok to exercise, but kickboxing might be too strenuous. Just wondering everyones opinion.

Re: exercise and pregnancy

I didnt exercise before becoming PG so i was told not to start.

I can walk and probably do mommy yoga

Kickboxing is something that personally I wouldnt do being PG- like aerobics, weights etc.

if your doc said not to do it - i wouldn't do it.

they are ultimately responsible for your health and your baby's well being....

Re: exercise and pregnancy

Thanks for the responses- i want nothing more than to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. I just cancelled my membership at the class, but can't help to be a little bummed. I've always had some kind of body image issues and now that i can't really work out (besides doing the elliptical and walking) i feel like i'm going to be more mental than usual Chat Icon

i 100% hear you on the body issues - i'm going through some fun things myself on that front...

you can STILL exercise...it's a matter of how much and how strenuous. Call the doc back and ask about other things....

i would think NO squat thrusts, but other forms of light exercise should be okay...

it can't hurt you to get a list of things you CAN do...they shouldn't have any problem giving you that list!

Re: exercise and pregnancy

I still do weights and cardio-- I just watch my heartrate. I also just started pre-natal yoga.

Kickboxing sounds a little too intense for pregnancy though.

I still do but not as strenuous as before. I do walk everyday though and do hand weights still.

Re: exercise and pregnancy

I do the elliptical 3 times a week and resistance training using the bands. Definitely don't do the kickboxing. You're heartrate shouldn't go over 140.

Prenatal Yoga is def a great idea..I take that too.

Don't worry about your body issues (I have them too), but if you're healthy and still exercising, you will bounce right back. Try not to stress about it..we can only do the best we can to carry a healthy baby!!

Re: exercise and pregnancy

I still work out and I am 19 weeks. I used to run but got removed from that at week nine. Now I do the elliptical, spin, and lift weights.

Re: exercise and pregnancy

Don't get me started on the body image issues! I am definitely on that boat!
I still exercise but the Dr. said to take it down a notch. Don't let your heart rate get above 140 and don't get over heated. Drink plenty of water!
I do the elliptical 4-5 days a week and some light weight training. No abs.
Nothing to strenuous.
Talk to your doctor

Just wanted to add I am 18 weeks.
