BTDT Moms

I received a ton of gifts from my shower and I feel like I have the "essentials" but I am sure there are things we are missing.

I was wondering if there were things that you wished you had when you brought the baby home or things you had to run out and get because you really needed them.

TIA!

I think the only things you can never have enough of are diapers and wipes. Other than that, make sure you have enough onesies, bibs/burb cloths, and receiving blankets. Those were the essentials for us with our DS.

Re: BTDT Moms

Within the first 3 weeks we ran out and bought:

* More mittens
* More burp cloths
* A drying rack for bottles
* Bottle warmer for house and car
* More pads for changing table
* Newborn clothes - I anticipated her being so big that even though I had a ton of clothes NONE of them fit her so we ran out and bought a ton of newborn clothes.

Re: BTDT Moms

I basically lived at BRU the first six months. I was constantly thinking of new things to buy him.

The essentials in the very beginning:
If you are giving your DC formula - make sure to have extra in the house. I also bought alot of the 2oz bottles and kept them next to my bed so I didn't have to worry about making bottles in the middle of the night. I would pop a disposable nipple on - it was so easy!

Bouncy seat
Boppy
Something to swaddle your DC in (although in the beginning weeks you will just keep them in the hospital blanket)

Diapers in size 1 - my son was 10 pounds and never in newborn diapers.

OOH - get Viva paper towels because in the beginning your not supposed to use wipes on their tush.

A few different kinds of pacifiers if you are planning on giving them to your DC. They may not like a certain brand.

A&D lotion - or Aquaphor. We were told to put it in every diaper (still do 16 months later)

The disposable changing cloths that sit on the changing mat. In the beginning the babies have no control and pee/poop all the time. Those things were lifesavers and kept me from having to do a wash every day.

Also - extra sheets for the bassinet or whatever your DC will be sleeping in.

Oh one other thing that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE..............Boudreaux's Butt Paste!!! It's awesome. Emerson is almost 8 weeks old and not only has she never had a diaper rash BUT she hasn't even had so much as a red tushy. Works really great!! Also LOVE the Huggies wipes.........been using the Shea Butter ones from the get-go. I agree with the above poster on the Newborn diapers......she only used those for maybe 2 weeks and then we had to switch her to Size 1. Speaking of diapers.......LOVE Pampers Swaddlers. Chat Icon

Re: BTDT Moms

I think its different for each mom on the must have's, but Theresa is right, definitely wipes & diapers.

We also found we lost socks all the time.

We couldn't live w/o the miracle blanket, that was a Godsend.

DD was never in newborn diapers, we went right to step 1
